Thank you for the great video. You saved me a lot of work. The "crowbar checking method" proved that the play in the swingarm was caused by a broken linkage bearing. I was about to rip the swingarm off and tap the bearings out. Many thanks!!

Thank you for making these videos. I’m going to be buying your KX250 engine rebuild videos because I’m a moron and I tore it all apart and then let it sit for a few years and I don’t remember wtf I’m doing! That’s after I get her at least rolling (frame up build). Thanks again!!!

All thread works really nice for removal of the bearings. You can stack everything in place on the rod and tighten the nuts to pull everything out.

u can also use a long bolt with some washers and a nut to pull the bearing out. just put a washer on the bolt put it through the socket and then put it through the swing arm and do the same on the other side with a nut and just tighten away

I’m tripping here.. I bought a brand new CRF450 in 2010 and I always remember thinking the play in the swing arm was really odd.. you could lift the rear wheel like 10-15mm but because it was brand new I thought it was fine. I had the bike for 4years and it never got any worse but I think it was the lower shock bearing. I have a 2021 CRF450 now and as soon as I got it I noticed there was no play which seemed strange because of the 2010 bike I had and I’ve just thought about it today so started doing research.

you ever just leave the bearings in and clean them as much as you can with them in the swingarm, like with starting fluid or gasoline, then just regrease them? Thanks for the video man, these take a long time to make I bet this took a solid 10 hours to make and edit.
@HTMR4 жыл бұрын
Yes if the bearings are still good. You should do it annually or every 15hr ride time.

MatthewMCRepair yeah that's not a big deal but also I wanted to share something you might find interesting My chain adjuster Bolt got stuck in my motorbike and tried everything believe me, I put a blow torch on it, on it and tried welding 2 nuts to it and still couldn't get it and I had to pay to get it drilled and tapped and heli coil inserted.

@tonyzweedyk4784 жыл бұрын
You'll run into tolerance issues if you use a vice. Use a threaded rod, washers, nuts and the right size sockets and crank em out with two wrenches.

What happens if your swing arm axel, what holds it on at the foot pegs won’t even budge with lubricant on it and hitting it with a hammer?
@Dambo33 жыл бұрын
that's a tough one. I recently did mine on a DRZ400 and had the same issue. I loosened the nut and moved the swingarm so it will slide on the axle and for a week I sprayed penetrating oil on the entire shaft, the left side, thru the engine and the right side. eventually I inserted a shaft with a nut and washer and used a small hammer to knock it out of its place and it worked. I also prepared a tool that could remove it. the tool is a long threader shaft that goes in the axle and large pipe on the right side (that will have a place for the axle to get out), on top of the pipe I located a 36 mm socket and washers and nut on both sides. then the nut needs to be tighten and pull the axle to the large pipe side. I'm afraid that if both methods fail the next one might be to cut the axle with a rotary disc tool which I haven't done and don't recommends. good luck, be patient with it and be carful not to damage the axle (although its not that bad if it helps you removing it - it replaceable) and be carful on the frame because I've seen some guys hammering the frame and denting it.

when you work on things over time you aquire more tools for more jobs, plus end up making tools too. just takes starting somewhere to begin the collection. money saved from mechanic bills adds to building a decent tool collection fairly quickly!
