The pin with the lady's head and the hair meets the chin of the lady❤❤❤ I just rescued this pin from a goodwill bag of "junk jewelry" Also, goodwill "junk jewelry or bulk bags" are great place to start inspecting jewelry

The Gold purple amethyst Celtic brooch is Scottish, hence the Celtic knot design. It's 9ct (375) gold which is standard in the UK, the castle means it was assayed (checked) in Edinburgh & the letter K is the date letter, the font & the shape around it tells you the date. I think the date is 1891-92

Around the late 1890s to the 1910s, many pieces of jewelry were produced (mostly hatpins, brooches, and buckles) bearing the mark "Sterling front" or "Sterling top". They are usually in the Art Nouveau style and were probably meant to be less expensive knock-offs of the all-silver pieces by Unger, Kerr, etc. The silver is often relatively thin and the backs are just base metal.

Thank you for your videos! Just recently began watching them...and they are so very helpful! Backstory-I've inherited quite a collection of fine and costume jewelry n a little bit in between from my grandparents. Some that date back to great-great grand's pocket watches. Some items I plan to sell and others to learn more about. This sort of thing can be very intimidating, and overwhelming. However, this year I need to get started. So thank you very much!! Deep gratitude 🙏💜

Something to share with my cousins- 375 is 9 Karat gold, the lowest Karat gold for sale in the UK. In the US, 9 karat gold is considered gold filled, 10 karat gold is the lowest Karat marked gold that can be considered gold and not gold filled.
@bonniejosavland322710 ай бұрын
The US made that 10% baseline, while odd numbers of carats

Be careful, folks! Some jewelers actually make a deep scratch in the item to test with acid, rather than using a scratch plate!!! 😮
@kelly650410 ай бұрын
A scratch plate isn't 100% accurate. If it's plated heavily enough you'll never get to the core metal. I prefer a discrete, small area for absolute certainty & you'll only need the smallest drop of acid

They have to, would you want to pay for an 18k, 35 gram mens chain, that is marked, but fake. A lot of money is lost on fakes. The store should ask you first and explain everything they are going to do. They may test the chain and clasp. Sometimes, they use real clasps on fake chains.

There are several brands of commercial metal cleaners but are they guaranteed not to distort jewelry like necklaces, watches, rings, etc. Most grateful for sharing your expertise on fine and custom jewelry.
