How to Install a 12V Socket in Your Car - Subaru Impreza 2018

In this video, I'm going to show you how to install a 12 volt socket in your car as well as disassemble some of the interior. I'm installing this in the back of my car, but you can install it anywhere you want power.
Im installing this in my 2018 Subaru Impreza, so this guide will be very helpful if you are planning to install on a Subaru as well.
If you are not, the same principles for electronics apply: running the wire, attaching the fuse tap, attaching wires and so on.

Interesting that you took the seat out. I ran trailer wires to to a 7 way tv plug I installed and never once thought the seat was in the way. I am looking to add a 12v plug for a dash cam in the rear of my car so the video was a nice refresher on where all the. Lips and screws are.

Should note on using fuse taps the prong with the wire side coming out should be on the negative side in the fuse box. Otherwise power flows bypassing the fuse making it point less.

I have the hybrid, it has a little pocket on the right side where the air compressor kit fits. Looks like I can just drill out the bottom of it and the socket will drop in, and the socket will be facing upward. I didn't take apart all of the panels on the right side, but I assume it's the same as the left. Any reason not to run the wire along the passenger side, and then behind the glove box to the fuse panel?

Also I should mention the hybrid is a bit odd. The battery is a good 4 inches higher than the lift gate platform. Also, there is an air vent on the left and right (i assume for battery venting), as well as an air vent on the right panel beside the rightmost passenger rear seat. Doesn't look like the older crosstreks have this.

The only reason I went around the drivers side was because I figured it would be easier to run the wire along the body and then have quick access to the fuse box versus behind the dash.

@@goinhigher I was able to drill a hole in the bottom of the right panel. The hybrid has a little 6 inch by 6 inch cubby in that side for the air pump, so there is enough room. And yes, I ran it under the dash and glove box, and down the right side.

Can I just connect it directly to the positive battery terminal still with a fuse?

Yes, that would work fine as well. I opted for this method just to keep all the wiring in the cabin and not have to run leads off my battery.
