I cannot thank you enough for your series on 4.0l engines. I was fighting the installation of a 4.0 in my son's Ranger. I watched this video yesterday, went home and had it mated to the transmission and bolted into the vehicle in less than 1 hour. Truly thankful and you deserve more than subscribers and comments. Again, thank you - this is the best video series on the SOHC engines, PERIOD.

You are the first person I have written a comment to on KZbin. I just want to thank you for your video. Having consolidated an engine installation in a half hour video is beyond excellent. I have a 2006 Ford Explorer (Lucy) with 130k+ miles on it. I just had its transmission rebuilt and bought a new set of tires to get it ready for the next 100k miles or so. A guy at work offered to change the valve cover gaskets for me, but in the process he must to dropped a bolt or something inside the engine, because when he tried to start it, the engine seized and never started anymore. He immediately said it wasn't his fault and that most likely the engine was old and that was going to happen sooner or later. A week later he told me that he felt bad about what had happened and offered to swap the engine if I bought a new one. So, as you must have already guessed it, I bought a new engine and the guy started the swap. It took him 3 days to removed the old engine and about 3 weeks to drop in the new one. Losing bolts, ripping hoses and breaking pipes in the process. A month later he asked me if I still wanted him to finish the job, to which I replied, NO. He had done enough damage and I have learned the lesson. I tried getting more than a few of the so called "Mechanics" to come and finish the job, and they all said yes, but none one ever showed up. My poor Lucy has been in my garage for more than a year now. I normally do my own oil changes, tune-ups and breaks, but I've never messed with the engine before, but after watching your video I have decided to take matters into my own hands. Wish me luck. 👨‍🔧

Good stuff bro! Your videos are excellent to show people it isn't overly complicated to work on a car. It fires me up to hear about someone getting ripped off at a mechanic shop and I always say to myself " only if that person knew how easy it is to learn to do there own car work" But I was tought (You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink). Alright getting a lot closer to finishing and she fired up. However I am getting a serious smoke problem. It isn’t a fluid burning I don’t think, but i can’t see exactly where from. It looks like from the exhaust but the smoke is billowing from around the intake area. No leaks from the coolant system or oil which is a plus. Is it normal for the engine to burn off stuff when first firing it back up?

Get the flywheel down into the bell housing. Use a curved end crowbar to spin the converter through the bottom. If i remember correctly down by the oil pan there’s some access where that little shield goes.

The engine doesn’t need to come out but you should cut the harness wrap and just splice in new connectors. Ford engine and transmission share the same harness so you need to unplug transmission too. It costs a fortune to replace
