This was helpful, just what I was looking for. Thank you! Most fans have some clips for the housing to attach. This model needs the housing/vent thing to be installed before the light shroud. Makes sense now that I’ve seen you do it!

Why not just replace the motor and keep the housing.

This is how not to install an exhaust fan. first it's a fire hazard, wire nuts (the connections) must be inside the fan's metal junction box to avoid fire in case of sparking. Also you should build the ceiling square hole (reduce the size) to fit the new fan box, now there is a gap between the metal box and the ceiling which allow air movement between the bathroom and the attic. Also the way you stripped the wires was wrong! use a wire stripper to avoid damaging the copper!

I have this model and notice it leaks so much outside air from the exhaust when off... How do I fix that?
@CreativeProcessDIY2 жыл бұрын
what do you mean? when it is off the fan isn't running
@uvhciM Жыл бұрын
If you mean it leaks outside air back into the bathroom when the fan is off, you probably installed the exhaust damper assembly upside down. kzbin.info/www/bejne/npXZoHyVjbaKjtE

Sheesh this is horrible, don't leave a big gap like that. You'll invite every insect in your attic straight into your shower, plus you'll lose a lot of heat in the winter. At the very least tape that up. Even better... go get some drywall, some drywall tape and some hot mud and fix it the right way. It doesn't have to be pretty because it's hidden, but it should be solid.

Wrong 👎 There is too much of a gap surrounding the new Box. The ceiling hole needs to be exact to the box you are installing. If not you have insulation falling unto the grille and consequently into the bathroom and or extractor fan duct and out of the home. Fix: build it up with straps of wood ( 2x4 is okay but is over kill ) , dry wall straps or go into attic and seal with HVAC Duct tape as last resort. Point is you should not have gaps. Plus your bathroom will be hotter because you are sucking in hot air from attic when extractor fan is on.

You didn't vent it. If it's going into attic it will have mold damage. Just because person who installed the old one wrong, doesn't mean you should too. Oh well.

I have this replacement fan you're using. It's so noisy, now I know how to rip it out of my bathroom ceiling and install a decent one. (Gonna vent mine to atmospheric though!)

There is a large gap between the box and drywall allowing heat to go into attic. Shouldn’t that be taped around it to block the escaping air?
@WalkwithGod4eternity26 күн бұрын
I have that problem with my bath exhaust fan. Whoever installed it fastened it wrong and left a big gap bewteen the housing and ceiling drywall so in the summer all that hot air escapes into the bathroom. Makes the fan counterproductive. It should be a tight square, no gaps around the housing. It needs to be sealed. Covering it with the decorative cover doesnt help.
