What did you screw the fan into? It looks like a metal joist or ductwork on the right? And the side we can't see what was there that you screwed into?

What did you fasten to on the second side? I assume the joist but show the real important stuff.

Did it say Speaker install in the Title?You cut the hole too large, you need to seal that.

Thanks for the info. I grew up in a 1963 house that had bathroom fans. I'm sure being 63 it was probably 50s technology they made a lot of noise my dad repaired them more than once and got sick of it and made everyone leave it off.

If you had to cut the hole in the ceiling where did the magic power cord come from? It seems unlikely that it was already there waiting for you.

I just had to increase the hole size. There was already a smaller fan in the ceiling originally.

@@JaredDesrosiers Well there you go, I made the comment because I'm wanting to put a bathroom vent in my old house that doesn't have one (a nightmare) and there is no power at that spot, they'll have to do everything by scratch, it's more than I'm wanting to take on myself. There is a ceiling fan reasonably near by so I'll probably have an electrician install all the necessary items, the fan unit, and vent it out the roof etc. My guess is they'll run the power off the ceiling fan, I don't even have a light in the attic, maybe I'll have them run one as well while they're doing the job. $$$$.

Removed a couple of screws, got it lose,, disconnected the air duct,, and ripped it out.

I have an older fan but I'm planning on replacing it, I'm considering this fan but do you have to go into the attic at all? My dad is installing it but doesn't want to go into the attic.

Hi, yes if it is on the second floor nearest to the attic you will. However, it would have made things so much easier if I could have gone through the attic.

Savvy Saving Couple it's a single story home. The attic is right above it, but my dad fell through his attic a while back trying to fix a leak in the roof. He's kind of nervous of going into attics now. He said he will get it installed, so I'm crossing my fingers we can get it done like you did.

I would contact Broan to see if they can suggest anything. I am thinking he'd need to access it, but cant be 100% sure.

Savvy Saving Couple thanks I did contact broan and they said attic access is needed but my dad will know all the ways he's handy. He put one up not too long ago in my other bathroom and he was able to do it without going into the attic.

All you did was unplug one fan and plug in another. Im starting from scratch,no hole, no power, with a house that was built in 1923 with lath and plaster. I came here to see how that was done. Your tile needs to be changed.

That's not all I did. I also opened up the hole and installed a whole new housing into it. I never said this video showed a new install into a "virgin" ceiling. I hope you find the information you're looking for. Good luck with your install.
