This great.... I do not use my hot water heater and wanted to figure a way to keep from having to keep winterizing it. this will do the trick.

So how do you drain your heater? I see no drain plug so seems like you've got to remove your hose anyway to drain so not sure how much advantage past having to remove the second hose and couple.

Drain bib is on the bottom of the water heater.

Sorry didn't see that or that part of your video. My kit is the one with a single bypass valve and the other side having a check valve - it's pretty crappy imo - the plastic tee, the cheap build of the (cold) bypass valve. The packaging does not even spec the thread size and though seems to be 1/2" Male Pipe thread, it will not screw into my 1/2" female fittings more than 1 turn and that's before taping. No way I'd trust that to hold. Unfortunately I also don't have a drain so the cold side has a brass/bronze Tee with a drain plug that has to remain and I can't thread the new bypass into it.

Can you provide details/dimensions on the fittings you purchased from Home Depot to install the bypass kit?

I brought a bunch of them and installed what worked best. Start with 1” nipples and go to 2 1/2”. See what works and return what you didn’t use. That’s what I did. PS- I truly love this setup 3 years later. It’s such a time saver.

You wrapped the tefflon the wrong direction on the threads.. just sayin : ) Good video though!
