RV How To Water Heater Bypass

This is an RV how to project - creating a water heater bypass.

I got a used RV last summer, and I think the owner watched the video, I cannot get hot water out of my, I will reverse my in the next two weeks and update /add my comments

Nicely done video. The instruction on the Camco product mentions to do it the other way. The Bypass valve Tee goes to the cold side... Can you explain.

This video is incorrect. You just completely disabled the water heater if you follow the instruction in this video. Because you put the one-way check valve on the cold water inlet, see 1:55 and the arrow at 2:31 into the video, thus cold water can never enter the water heater tank now. Additionally, the video installs the ball valve on the hot water outlet. With this setup, even if the check valve allowed cold water to flow you'd be by-passing the water heater while also filling the water heater tank. But because the check valve WILL NOT allow cold water to flow into the water heater tank you just disabled the water heater. --- So reverse the valves from what the video shows; 1. The ball valve goes on the cold water inlet. This allows you to direct the cold water into or around (by-pass) the water heater. 2. The check valve goes on the hot water outlet with the arrow showing the flow coming out of the water heater. This allows the hot water to flow out, but when in by-pass mode the cold water will be blocked by the check valve, thus not allowing it to enter the tank via the hot water outlet. --- Hope this helps

+Evan W - I watched this, thought that I understood it, started to explain it to someone, realized that what I was explaining made no sense, watched it over, concluded that the video was wrong, and wondered "am I the only one who sees the mistakes here." Your explanation is excellent - nice work. (And one might wonder why the video makers haven't corrected their work.)

Thank you so much for the accurate comments in this video. I was needing to put a bypass on my hot water heater, and watched this video 1st. Then I watched another video that said the bypass goes on the cold water side not the hot. Having never done one of these before, and having not bought my bypass kit yet to look at the instructions, I'm thinking WTH, which video is correct? Well folks, it isn't this video that's correct. This video is WRONG, and it's lucky that I watched a 2nd video, realized 1 of them was doing it wrong, then came back to this video, and looked at the comments before starting because your incorrect information could very well get someone hurt or damage the water heater. In the future if you don't know what you're doing, you might want to rethink making an Instructional How To Video. Just smh.
