In this video, my little brother and I install a cold air intake on his VW. We picked up the intake on eBay for cheap, and the noise it makes it awesome.
When manufacturers claim that their intake can make up to 20 horsepower or whatever the claim is, it is usually backed up with an aftermarket tune as well, meaning installing the intake alone without the tune, will not give you the 20 horsepower.
Now if you want to make the most amount of power from your intake system, you would install a larger throttle body, ported intake runners, along with an aftermarket intake, and a tune to top it up. That way, you are upgrading every component leading up to the cylinders, where the air is delivered to.

I would highly recommend building a sheet metal splash guard under the cone filter and on the wheel well side. After the first big rain storm, you might be doing a engine replacement video. :)

+Shquiby I understand that he did, but that AEM sock will not be enough for the weather conditions that he experiences where he lives. If the car ever sees a Canadian winter, a splash guard will also prevent snow pack.

For everyone bitching about hyrdolocking the motor. Please watch Haggard Garages video of them trying to hyrdolock an engine. They literally sprayed a hose right up to the intake and it still didn't hyrdolock so rain is not going to do anything.

If this is a daily, why would you route it to where the underbelly tray is that just increased chances to get water in the intake by a lot... Not that great for heavy rain. Should reroute it to the front of the grille like all other big tuner companies like APR, Unitronic, etc

@@sidewayzsrt706 But when we do get rain it does hit a bit hard at least up here in the Antelope Valley some of the streets get flooded but most of the year there is barely any rain. I rather run my Stock Airbox or Short Ram during the cold/rain months just to be safe ill be picking up a Cold Air eventually for summer use though.

I been running auto Tech intake on my 12v vr6 and live in Canada and get all seasons in one day rain,snow and sun I never had a problem at all with it sucking up water or anything,just clean the maf every so often from dust and dirt,I had the short ram with heat shield it did nothing but suck hot air from engine,on the dyno I actually lost 2hp after running the third test and after putting the other auto Tech gained 8-9hp I know not much but it's something,the extra growl in the exhaust makes it sound nice as well.

Milan, make sure you get a Hydroshield for the filter. Injen makes them, Im sure other brands do too. It's a water repellent shielded sleeve for the air filter. When it rains you'll probably get water slinging down there, and it won't kill your car, but its a good idea to keep all that moisture from getting sucked in by the intake.

WookieeEatsEwok ive had a cold air intake on my xar for over 3 years i obviosuly avoid puddles bro but keep in mind that filter is in reality about a foot foot and a half from the ground ive never seen 2 foot deep puddles let alone drive over it now back to mine ive drove it in the rain over 50 times and never had an issue so this myth is kind of stupid on some situations all depends...

People exaggerate the myth that CAI will hydro-lock your engine. Can a CAI Hydro-lock your engine? Yes, absolutely. In order to do so though, you'd have to drive into a deep puddle/standing water (AT LEAST up to your bumper). Driving in rain won't hurt anything. I can't remember a time where I drove through standing water up to the bumper on my car.

I have a splash guard. I drive it in the rain all the time. U just try to avoid puddles. But i hit puddles and its fine. Just dont try to driving through 2 ft of water.

Is having the inlet cone in a high splash and high dirt area a good idea? You could suck up a lot of water from a puddle and that could then hydraulically lock up your engine!

Its all preference for the intake, because most of them, you will only see a difference in sound. The only way to get power from them, is to get a tune. As for brakes, Stoptech has some good slotted / cross drilled rotors that are a great replacement/upgrade from stock.

Jose Pd It means either a legit performance chip soldered into your ECU or a Software Flash Tune to your ECU. Not sure what would be out there for your truck though.

I can tell you that intake on the bottom of a Sonata is going to suck water into the engine. I know this cuz the factory intake does already. You have to move the cone up higher off the ground into the engine bay.

Sutharshan Balasubramaniam even with hydro shield it's not enough if you live in a hot city with no rain but clogged sewers causes nasty water rise up suddenly and you don't have choice except driving forward and pray your wheels don't get stuck, but if you are talking about Canada, I think you will be fine for years

The intake manifold gets extremely hot so yes, it would be getting hot air which isn't what you would want. The goal is to get it as far from any heat as possible.
