Wow! Did a good job…i really love how you build this. ❤

I did something similar, but I used steel stud framing. I know it will rust over time, but I'm in the southwest, so it will take a VERY long time

How long will this last with the wood frame sitting completely below ground level? I would LOVE to do this, but the subterranean frame is concerning.

This was the first thing I noticed and it will rot as it’s in direct contact with the ground which means moisture which means rotting is a definite so the Trex will last but the base won’t

Maybe painting the subframe with a waterproofing membrane will help
@AaronBrand7 ай бұрын
Yeah. I think that will be the downside of this build. Taping the top of the framing is pointless if the rest of the board is in contact with the drain rock. At least where I live drain rock will fill with water and raise the level of the ground water unless you’re at the top of a hill.

Soak Subframe in diesel and it will never rot, look it up

It’ll be fine it’s pressure treated lumber and the pea gravel will absorb most of the moisture.

I like it. Would love to redo my deck with this material 👍🏾

Will the framing rot if it is in the ground like that?
@tatertots56252 жыл бұрын
Yes, at some point. If the entire board was flashed it could last a long time with proper drainage.

Looks like they are in the desert, so probably will last a while. But not in a wet climate

Do you slope the trex slightly for runoff away from the house?

Giving the amount of digging and root removal this involved, I suspect the trees didn't survive very long.

Seeing your using composite decking . Is there not a product out to do the frame in composite wood product also ?
@bloomgardenco.2328 Жыл бұрын
Yes, very expensive but it is out there.

Im not an expert but some aspects of the build seem questionable to me. Additionally, the design seems off as well. In my unsolicited opinion I think the decking boards should be going in a different direction, I think it would look better if they were rotated 90 degrees so they run perpendicular to the paths direction. That being said, I give you lots of credit for having an idea, executing it, and posting it online for us keyboard warriors to comment on it.

I agree on the deck board orientation comment, especially since the walkway is not level and follows the gentle slope.

I imagine that after a few years, those roots will grow back in and likely cause the deck to start shifting and become unleveled.
