This is such and IMPORTANT video - and i agree with Mad Dog Charm - I cant believe there are not more like it. We are doing the same thing - and no one said a thing to me....however, i started doing the math ahead of time. We are right in the middle of finalizing our cabinet order and i will have to ask them to customer make the oven cabinet - becuase YES! he is correct - we need it to be lower so that the top of the oven and the bottom of the cooktop DO NOT TOUCH!! I have my fingers crossed that lowering the cabinet floor and minimizing the toe kick will work. I havent thought about the "from the side" issue now that the toe kick in that area will be shorter.

I had a feeling this wouldn't be as simple as buying a pre-made cabinet, thanks. I think I will have to work on finding the right size oven... I see this will be trickier than I imagined. Thanks for the warning, if not a solution!

I can’t believe there are no comments and no other videos like this on KZbin. I bought one of those cabinets at the Home Depot recently, never having had a separate oven and cooktop before. They asked me nothing about the size of the oven, I assumed it would just work. It looked exactly like your cabinet when it arrived. I ended up having to cut out basically the whole front, save the top railing portion and use the bottom wood to build a thicker rail up too. Then I discovered the bottom was too high so yes, now I’m going to have to cut the toe kick to lower the base “below deck.” At least you have confirmed pretty much everything I ran into. The only other thing I can’t find is about proper ventilation for the induction cooktop. They talk about leaving an air gap underneath. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do about that. Is the space between the oven and cooktop sufficient? Do I cut a hole under the oven rear in the cabinet base? Or is that not necessary?

@Mad Dog Charm, let us know what you find about the air gap. Thanks!

I think the pre-made faces are only for ovens under counters, where they can be installed a bit higher for convenience. I’m about to install one under an induction cooktop and will have to measure carefully. There isn’t much wiggle room!

how did it work out? I'm about to undertake this myself
