This was a HUGE help for me. I didn't have the wires inside the wall color coordinated so when this video told me that the bare copper wire was the ground cable wire and to connect the light switch green wire to the bare copper ground wire that was what I needed to get the light switch connected & eventually working properly. I thank you again for posting this video.

4 wires because the switch was a 3 way switch and the dimmer could be used as a 3way dimmer switch as well

That is perfectly normal. The demonstration in this video used a 3-way switch as an example, that's why there were more wires. For just a standard 2-way switch you will only have 2 wires, line and load (and a ground).

Unnecessarily confusing. Why not say in THIS demonstration the dimmer being used is for a 3-way circuit {a light that can be controlled from two separate switches}? And to begin with, since people are just trying to learn dimmer switch basics, why not use a REGULAR single-pole dimmer {for switch that controls one light}? Besides missing these really really basic points, the rest isn't that bad.

Dimmer switches do not save electricity! Dimmer switches work by soaking up the excess power thereby lowering the power output to the light.

@@Bardotunes What's missing is a comma after the word "KZbin", and a third period after the word "explanation" in your sentences. Your comment would have landed, but my grammar was perfectly fine. Where do you think my syntax failed? What's missing from the video is any actual explanation of the wiring, how to test for the right wiring, and what wires can be connected each other without damaging your home or starting a fire. This is at best a dangerous explanation of this installation, and at worst a non-explanation.
