Yes you can. It mounts on the face of the door so it should work on any door. Now if you want to make sure it is sturdy and you are doing a hollow core door you may want to find a way to fill the void after you cut the hole and before you install the pet door. Spray foam should work and then you can trim the excess and install the door afterwards. Have not done this but this is my suggestion to you.

Probably, but maybe you need a glass cutter and some type glue instead of screws. And a lot of care, glass shards can be dangerous.

Yes you can! Just make sure to choose a pet door that are made for storm doors - usually made from aluminum vs strong plastic.

why mount the dog door to the left of center?

1. The door is stronger on the hinge side, the bigger pet doors would cause fewer closure problems when positioned closer to the hinge side of the door. 2. This is a raised panel door and the placement is centered on a panel section, this results in easy cut lines. 3. I installed a small door centered in an interior door, it worked fine. 4. When cutting holes on raised panel doors consider using a piece of plywood under your jig saw: 4a) It lifts the saw enough so that the saw blade does not bang into the opposite door skin 4b) It supports the saw and provides a flat surface for the saw to ride over when cutting raised panel doors. 4c) It helps prevent scratching of the door from the saw riding over it.

And don't forget security and safety. If the opening was closer to the hinges, someone could wrap their arm around from the outside and reach in and pop the lower hinges off the door frame.
