I just bought a garage door remote control unit from the garage door guru on ebay & noticed that he sells these seals too. Now that I've seen how easy you made the fit look I think I'll buy a door seal too. Another good, informative video!

That looks simple enough. Thanks so much for posting this. I am trying to help upgrade my parents' house and this is exactly what I need to do. Right now they have an older manual garage door so I am assuming that I will have to wait until the new door is installed before doing this. Also, thanks for the heads up about insulating the garage door. The cold that comes in through the garage right now is appalling. I'll definitely be doing that too. :)

Hi, rain water comes into my garage almost a meter from the front. Water once came in it stayed there a few days before it dried up. I think the weather seal should be attached to the bottom of the door (not to be glued to the concrete floor), because 1. The car tires will roll over the seal every in and out that damages the seal. 2 If water does build up it cannot flows out because the seal acts as a barrier to stop inner water to flow out.

I did this job but the adhesive sealant failed after about a year and the strip came loose. When i pulled it up it the adhesive sealant hadn't stuck to the rubber but only to the concrete and was quite hard to get off. In the end I used double sided butyl jointing tape from toolstation to stick it back down. It's been stuck down for over a year now with no movement or lifting.

Hi. First time watcher. A garage door installer is scheduled to arrive between 3pm and 5pm to remove an old wooden door and install insulated door on detached garage. Google predicts rain later that day from 10pm to 4am AFTER they are gone. What concerns should I have and address with the installers BEFORE they start the job? Oh yeah. My location gets snow 4 months per year but I don't use salt of any kind near the garage. Only 2 car length from the street so the car can get in and out.
@ultimatehandyman5 жыл бұрын
If they are installing the door, they probably won't be installing a weather strip on the floor, unless it was specified! I'm guessing they have probably done the job by now?
@StevePringle5 жыл бұрын
@@ultimatehandyman Not yet. In the next 3 to 5 hours. It's overcast and in the 70s so we'll see if they reschedule or not and I'll as if it going to be extra or included for the floor strip. I know the door has it. Thanks.

I'm not sure why you would need to remove it, but you would have to use a scraper or sharp knife to get it up- perhaps a multi-tool and blade attachment.

Hello, the seal works only for wind proof, but the ground will not flat and inside water can't be drained out , why not just nail the rubber under the door instead of stick it on the ground?
@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
+Joe Qiao It won't seal properly if you do that. If there is any resistance at all when opening the garage door the opener will not work. By fixing it on the inside of the door it creates a water tight seal. Any water then cannot run under the door as it hits the rubber and then runs back out to the drainage channel. Thanks for the comment

Yes, but the bond will only be as strong as the paint bond. In most cases the paint will be firmly stuck, so you should get a good bond.

dumb question, if it floods can water get in?
@ultimatehandyman8 жыл бұрын
+TH3PROJ3CT2501 Yes, it will still get in if there is a flood. My garage used to flood every time there was a large downpour as it is the lowest point of the driveway, but since installing this strip it has never flooded since as the water has to be over 1 inch deep before it can get over the top of the strip.
@Th3Proj3ct25018 жыл бұрын
ah, im looking a way to keep it from flooding to convert it into a room, but so i can convert it back later i don't want to permanently seal it. just disable the door. idk if you know how to
I cannot for the life of me (And i have now attempted 3 times - To get the sealant to stick to both the concrete and the Rubber Seal. After applying plenty of adhesive in 2 lines and zig zagged beads it just peels up and is not water tight. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!!

Is the concrete dry/dusty? If it is I would try sealing the concrete first using some SBR - fave.co/2yIJxHw Once that has dried out the sealant should stick to the concrete.
@tarmactaz7 жыл бұрын
I will make sure and get rid of all dust. I have ordered the same sealant that you have used and will get some of the SBR. Will have to wait until dry for a few days (Tricky at this time of year) Will report back with how it goes in the near future. Thanks for replying, and great video. Keep it up.
@tarmactaz7 жыл бұрын
Now recieved the SBR and new sealant. Will be giving this a shot tonight. How long after applying the SBR as a primer do I need to wait before applying the sealant and seal? Does it need to dry completely first?
@tarmactaz7 жыл бұрын
This worked absolutey BRILLIANTLY! I diluted the SBR 50 / 50 (Everbuild SBR) with water, brushed it on the area where the strip would be placed and waited til it went 'tacky' "slightly blueish color". After that re-laid the strip with the same sealant you use in this video. (Soudal Soudaflex 40FC) Ideal - Thanks for the extra info on the SBR. Never heard of it before and more than happy with the results. Thank you!

I'm glad it worked ;-) SBR is wonderful stuff, I often mix it with mortar when doing repair work. Thanks for the comments
