This was VERY helpful, thank you! I installed a Comfort Zone 240V 7500W unit in my garage and followed this - and the unit directions - and the setup was flawless.

I have a natural gas available for heating my garage it's currently capped off , plus I have 3 vents that are connected to our house HVAC but closed but do keep my garage around 50f , I'm having a 100 amp sub-panel installed soon by licensed electrician , with 2 220v plugs for welder and dust collector. Great video.. Gary

nice video, got a question there is no on/off on this heater just a thermostat but can this run off a switch (similar to a light)? So when it off , its off and when its on it kicks on based on the thermostat setting.

That was awesome!! Very informative sir. Can I run a orange romex through the conduit? Or does need to be three separate wires when using a conduit? Thanks again. Sorry stupid question. Why did you have to install junction box on the wall near the breaker? Why not run wires straight to the junction box on the ceiling?
@3080BOT
@3080BOT 4 жыл бұрын
You should not run romex into a pipe. It’s not listed or rated for such use. He probably installed the junction box because the 90 wouldn’t look great coming out of the wall.
@stillthakoolest
@stillthakoolest 4 жыл бұрын
@@3080BOT nothing in the NEC says you cant run romex in conduit for physical protection. You cant remove the sheathing and use those wires as they arent marked THHN, etc.. itss a pain to pull in conduit so id run wires anyway, but just saying.
@3080BOT
@3080BOT 4 жыл бұрын
Yes in an exposed situation the nec says to protect it with the conduit. But then the romex could end up overheating inside the conduit if you don’t properly size it. Chapter 9 even has a table for elliptical cable.

@@stillthakoolest Also they might not be marked as thhn but they have the same temperature ratings as thhn

Can I hardwire this heater from juction box of existing 240v outlet from dryer or do I need to run a new line from box? Or can I just run another 30A breaker to add another 240v outlet and find electric heater that plugs in instead of hardwiring it?

Everything electrical looks good but it needs to be at least 6in in the box.

At least 150 mm (6 in.) of free conductor, measured from the point in the box where it emerges from its raceway or cable sheath, shall be left at each outlet, junction, and switch point for splices or the connection of luminaires or devices. Where the opening to an outlet, junction, or switch point is less than 200 mm (8 in.) in any dimension, each conductor shall be long enough to extend at least 75 mm (3 in.) outside the opening. Exception: Conductors that are not spliced or terminated at the outlet, junction, or switch point shall not be required to comply with 300.14. Quick measurement is fist plus thumb extended.

It is grounded at the main panel via the main bonding jumper, but as good practice he should ground the boxes using a ground tail. Also 3" of wire is not enough in a box

That little heater is ok. For 44 degrees in a small space. In Georgia we get in the 30's and my medium sized shop (around 1200sq feet) that little thing would be inefficient at best. I know they have larger units but after a certain point, electric heat is not practical vs natural gas or propane. Which I imagine is almost non existent in Cali.

mean joe green , yeah I've watched a couple videos on it and I'll probably let an electrician consolidate my breakers down like Mr. Fix it was say'n. Because I'd also like to have an outside plug for a generator. I would end up like Clark Griswold if I attempted it. 😂😂😂

Mr. Fix It , Thanks Aaron, all but 1 breaker is available in my box and I'm sure there are some that can be consolidated but I don't want to attemp that, I'd probably burn down the neighborhood. LOL!! But I do believe I will be looking into having a professional take care of it seems how it can get REALLY cold out in the garage, and I don't really want to run the portable bottle propane heat anymore. Thank you for the response, take care and God Bless my friend!!!

Great. But you didn’t ground ANY of the boxes which is VERY DANGEROUS! The electrical panel ground is most likely not contacting that locknut and if that conduit became live, you would be in trouble
@Aaronproductions
@Aaronproductions 7 жыл бұрын
Mr. Fix It just because the wire is inside of EMT doesn’t mean the conduit is protected, it means the EMT is protecting the wires and doing nothing but that. NEC requires all metal boxes shall be grounded (unless you use a self grounded outlet, which this is not) the EMT is grounded by the boxes ground but the boxes are NOT grounded, therefore the whole EMT is not protected from 220VAC shock
@Aaronproductions
@Aaronproductions 7 жыл бұрын
Mr. Fix It I recommend getting some grounding pigtails, they come in a 2 pack which would work great for your 2 boxes
@woodmasterguy
@woodmasterguy 7 жыл бұрын
You grounded the plug at the panel, done. Add another 220v plug at that junction box, extra 220v plugs are nice to have when not using that heater...
@Aaronproductions
@Aaronproductions 7 жыл бұрын
woodmasterguy the locknut wasn’t even tightened, I am certain there is no ground continuity. Every box must be grounded, the boxes ground the conduit, you can’t have conduit ground boxes, especially with 220V.
@LarryMoran
@LarryMoran 6 жыл бұрын
Using EMT actually does mean its grounded, additional wires are NOT necessary. Using a hack saw is a preferred choice for cutting pipe, but either work as long as you clean the pipe when done.
