Whats the best way to turn the engine on these cars?

10:30 What happens if you did everything else correctly, but forgot to set the engine at TDC when you started? I obviously am not asking totally randomly, I replaced this seal and now my car won't start. Everything is primed, fuel at the injectors, but it doesn't seem as powerful fuel spurting as it used to be. I took the top apart to inspect the lower assembly and everything looks fine... The pump head was under spring pressure and I never removed more than 2 bolts. I'm guessing if it wasn't close enough to the front, or TDC, then the springs would have fallen down. 12:15 Everything is still under compression in the lower part of the assembly. I now realize I have to get a vag-com to dial in the fuel ratio since I opened the top. I scribed lines to get close, but it wasn't starting before I messed with the top.

Iam about to do the same thing. R^2 Fuel pump to replace this big ass bracket its sitting on. I was planning on just scratching the nut, sprocket and body to line the sprocket timing back when install it on again. I figured this should work fine since its nothing new going on. same timing belt(no stretch difference). Did this not work for you? how much can you get a vag com for?

**** If you do strip out the T30 head on a bolt as I did several times. My T30 wasn't junk and it was perfectly aligned and I used WD40. Take a 5mm Allen wrench and bottom out in the stripped T30 bolt head. Use a wrench for leverage making sure your wrench and 5mm Allen can move without interference. Use slow gradual pressure.

Do I need to set the timing to marks before replacing the O-ring?

Could the #1 TDC timing lock used for belt replacement be used for this purpose? I have to do this tomorrow, just replaced the timing belt. I did the body o rings last year. Drips one drop per minute now 🤑

I have a 2001 1.9 L TDI Diesel vw beetle, it is very hard to start in the mornings, I guess this is the same type engine.
