Ummm...soo... you're not even going to mention the "electric" wiring portion of the "electric" install being in a part 2 video.

I wish there was a little bit slower breakdown of the electrical hook up. Client wants a plug, not sure if that is ok? Anyone know?

Is a vacuum breaker required for this bottom fed water heater?
@christophergalvin81213 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too. It appears there's just a ball valve on the cold water pipe at 2:45 and I don't see any mention of it in the manual so I assume it's not required.
@mtbbiker64013 жыл бұрын
@@christophergalvin8121 Actually if you reference the AO Smith instruction manual they show a vacuum relief valve (when required by local code) located after the cold inlet valve.
@BobZed3 жыл бұрын
Kinda silly to worry about hooking up the power if your breaker is off.

Why not pex? It's rated at 100 years vs 50 years for copper.

Seriously the hook up of this hybrid is like a frankenstein monster with pipes and drain lines, valves, all over the place. Rheem really needs to clean this install up, run the friggin supply line connectors up to the top, just like any ordinary water heat, it is not that difficult to clean the Heat Pump, other supplies or hybrids have done it. Those side connectors and drains are just screaming for someone to bust one off and flood the area.

I just installed one of these A.O. Smith units. Several things surprised me. The first is how the air filter is of little value as it has a very poor fit allowing several gaps for unfiltered air in. Another is the lack of engineering to make connections ro the inlet and outlet easy. They are not in line vertically. The bottom connection is very close to the floor. This makes the use of sweat connections difficult as the manufacturer does not want any heat applied to the inlet and outlet as they have a thick plastic lining which can be damaged. This requires making an assembly and then screwing it onto the tank. This requires tilting the tank to accomplish that. Overall a pain to work with unless you are supporting a fitting manufacturer.

I've seen a lot of similar comments about the a o Smith hybrid heat pump unit. Apparently the rheem model is better.

use 3/4 brass 90s then male adapters into those. cheapest place to get them is amazon

Rheem's version looks like it's a much better water heater. Just the way they designed the air filter is dumb.
@buixote2 жыл бұрын
We've got a GE, and the filter looks like a sieve. One thing I notice is even companies that provide a duct kit don't account for the small size of many "water heater closets"... Rheem says use a louvered door, and face the outlet towards the door... trouble is, if you do this, everything else you need to access is facing the *wall* . I can't imagine that locating the necessary fittings/controls to allow for "easy installation" is rocket science... but then again, you'd have to pay some engineers, and that would cut into the shareholder return! ;-)

50 gallons for family of 4 more than enough in heat pump mode (the most efficient mode). There’s no shortage in hot water. Good I didn’t buy 80 gal.
