I can't thank you enough for making such a detailed video. As a newer builder, sometimes it is very difficult to secure the plumbing talent that is both educated on this new technology and willing to work on our smaller jobs. Since we tend to repeat parts of our builds, this is a no brainer to spec and train our in-house guys to install these particular heaters. Not plumbers, but we can specialize on this system for our builds. Thank you again

Extremely happy with ours. Had it since 2014. We set the timer to run it mostly from our rooftop solar. Saved a fortune since getting rid of the gas instantaneous.

Is the heat pump expected to last longer than 15 years. With the system cost it makes the comparison harder if not
@GoCoyote Жыл бұрын
Most code authorities and good practice dictates that an expansion tank be used regardless of the lack of check valves. If the main water supply is shut off for any reason while the water in the tank is cold, and the tanks is then heated, the expanded volume of water will place the house plumbing and equipment under considerable stress to the point of damage. Why risk a $6k water heater to save $50 on an expansion tank. The expansion tank will also reduce stress from water hammer due to solenoid valves on clothes washers and dishwashers.

I’m building this year. I want a sanden split heat pump water heater. Is the COP really 4.0???
@davidbisceglia91645 жыл бұрын
It's a reverse cycle heat pump. I would like to see if I could install it in my mechanical room which is always hot. As to price.... it's not necessarily "first cost" but total cost of operation. What is your delivered KwH cost x the # of hours per day/week/year that the system is running.

At that price the unit should run on AC and DC so you can directly hook it up to solar panels and have it automatically switch between them like the hybrid EG4 mini splits do!

For only $5,000.00 USD i can get my very own 43 gallon SNANCO. I think the savings and warranty do not out weigh the price. I can go out and buy any other reputable HPWH for less than half the price and see very close to the same savings. Also the water in and out lines are 3/4. 99.9% of homes in the US have 3/4 or bigger trunk lines. If i step up from 1/2 to 3/4 i reduce the flow which reduces the pressure. Now i know why you don't see these in American homes.

Finally someone who gives the power required so now I know that this one is not budget friendly nor compatible with low cost solar energy to run this on solar electricity you are looking at 10 grand for solar and over 7 grand for the hot water most people don't have 17 grand in their pockets and even 2 grand for solar is stretching the budget so this means even hybrid hot water tank cannot be used with solar power

I wonder what god-awful city this is, that requires permits for such minor electrical and plumbing modifications? Very cool tech though! I wish there was a way to use this in the summer to assist in cooling the house.
@reedharris25195 жыл бұрын
This tech can run cold into the tank, yes.
@rasichap4 жыл бұрын
Portland, Oregon, as stated at the beginning of the video. Permits are important as they help ensure that things are built and installed in a safe manor. This protects the home owner and future owners of the home. In this case you have a 240v electrical connection on the outside of the building, which kids could get into with deadly results if it was not done to code. When you purchase a permit, a city official will inspect the work to make sure it was done correctly.
@rasichap4 жыл бұрын
@@reedharris2519 Not in this particular case. If you want a system that makes both hot or cold water, you should look at something like Chiltrix.
@trevorlambert42265 жыл бұрын
Very nice technology. At ten times the price of a standard electric tank, not including extra permitting, it's hard to justify. Maybe the price will drop if sales volume goes up.
@maximerousseau5 жыл бұрын
The price I was quoted is more along the lines of 5x the expense if you appropriately size the system to be comparable to a standard electric heater with equivalent first hour hot water capacities. In some uses cases with very limited power such as off-grid, this seems like a smart move.
@trevorlambert42265 жыл бұрын
It will vary by region. I'm in Canada, and I bought an 80 gallon electric for $450 last year. It has the same first hour rating as the 43 gallon Sanco2. Best price I can find for that is $5100, then shipping will add a couple of hundred, conservatively. So that's actually almost 12 times the price. If you're in the US, it will run you about $3900 with shipping. For reasons I cannot begin to guess, 80 gallon electric water heaters in the US seem to be double the price I paid here. Off grid is not really a market for this product. Even at 1/3 the electricity, it's still way too big a load. Talk to anyone living off grid, they all use wood or gas for heating. Even a 30W ventilation fan is considered too much for most.

I don't decide to purchase things based on the cost of the individual pieces of the system. I base my decision on the value it provides to me and my family. Using far less energy to heat our water has an obvious payoff. We are able to purchase a smaller solar array as a result of having this based on the reduced energy consumption. It's better technology. If there is insane mark up on the product others will come around to try to get some of those profits, and then the price will go down.
