How well these work on very large yards? mines 3.5 acres will it recharge as needed and keep at it finishing what it failed to on the first charge or does it come out and start where it started the last time? In short does it need to be able to do the whole lawn in one charge?

On a yard that size you would need to get multiple Automowers. The largest unit will only do 1.25 Acres. They will automatically return to charge. The 430X & 450X comes with GPS. It will map out your yard and know where it has mowed and where it still needs to mow.

You can push 2 acres with a 450x. it mainly depends on how much wear and tear you're comfortable with. On a lot that size it will be running 4hrs and charging 2hrs, 24hrs a day 7 days a week for its life.
