The only reason that a smaller 3/8" hose was used is that's what they had. 1/2" is the norm and both were 1/2" originally. If you have a parts book, it'll tell you exactly what size of hoses to use and the overall length of them. Those push in/pull out connectors are the best. I have those on my 706. Conventional pioneer females also work better in the hose holders.

There are 2 possibilities i can think of with 2 different size hoses, A the former owner simply installed what he happened to have on hand, or they wanted a way to tell which hose was which when the connected to the cylinder on the equipment they were using, so they installed a different size. I like those double acting couplers too, far more convenient than having to work the lever to depressurize hose lines to disconnect or connect everything.

The 3/8 was being pumped so it worked fine for the small cylinder. The return line was pressurized by gravity acting on the equipment. The 1/2 line was able to purge the cylinder volume quicker for faster implement drop. Line size has nothing to do with pressure, that is delivered by the pump. Line size has to do with flow. To increase non-pressure flow you increase the line size to speed drop or decrease line size to slow the drop.

Great job going through the hydraulic hoses replacement. Are those hoses specifically made for tractor use or general hydraulic hose? Now that everything works great, you have a flat tire. 😂. Great tutorial, Farmall. Stay cool out there, it’s a hot one. BOOM!

The larger hose is the retractor hose, because more oil is returning to the tank. The size of the hose means, less oil in the smaller hose where the larger hose will give you more oil flow. The pressure comes from restrictions like raising a pice of equipment
@FarmallFanatic
@FarmallFanatic Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's what I figured out but I want both hoses matching and if it doesn't work... Then I will add a larger one.
@mmielcarek3046
@mmielcarek3046 Жыл бұрын
Retractor? Return line? That is usually larger to let the weight of the implement be released quicker. It did make it easier to know which hose went where. Pull the lift lever back and it raises up push forward it goes down. I didn't notice if your couplers were color marked.

I've been told the flat tips have a better seal and don't leak. Also have heard the flat tips have a higher flow. Another thing I've heard on some equipment it makes a difference on the top used depending if the system is open or closed center.

So far that tractor is really shaping up nicely. Although I have a feeling that the hydraulic hose holder you have for the SMTA won't fit. The battery box will be in the way. My brother tried one on his SMTA ,and he said he couldn't get it to work. If yours fits, let us know how it fits, because I'd like to get one for mine.
