Here's another letter series tip: for hydraulics that circulate, like our M and H with aftermarket two way control valves, plumb the return line into the factory drain hole at the bottom. With a 90 degree fitting plus a tee, you can keep the factory drain plug for easy fluid changes, but return oil won't get aerated. Also a 45 fitting and a stand pipe from the factory fill hole will give you a little more capacity.

I was born in 84 and I was torn between buying an M with a loader and grapple fork ($1400) or a snow plow for my Honda Rancher 4-wheeler ($600) for clearing snow in my driveway here in town. I ended up buying the snow plow, since I love using my 4-wheeler, but my Uncle has 2 M's and he said they start great during the winter. Just pour some gas down the carburetor.

when i worked for my IH dealer i set up 370 and 470 disks from 12ft to 21 ft. there were still a lot of farmers using H and M and 300 and 400 series tractors coming and buying new disks..and sometimes a new plow or rebuilding their old ones. the IH dealers daughter was in band with me and in chior . he had the high school chior sing a jingle for the radio ad i can never forget You are not farming at all unless your farm it all with a Farmall from buff equipment your local International Harvester farm equipment dealer. his younger son was in commercial art and the high school art dept drew up the ads for the newpaper the dealership donate money to both the chior and the art dept those were the days.

Greasing is a good habit to get into. Too often, I've seen guys come into the Case/IH dealership I worked at, buying parts every year that would last for countless seasons if they'd just do some PM on their equipment. Then, they belly ache about how expensive parts are. I told a guy one time, "Oil and grease are cheaper." My boss laughed.

Grease is cheaper than steel. Grease a disc everytime you use it. Unless you have sealed bearings on the gangs. It's amazing what a little bit of hydraulic oil will do. The old belly pump was doing her part after it had enough oil.

Hey fanatic! Guy from Butler here. Heard your call man about to dry I was over most of our farm last week watching hey and pastor at least spreading fertilizer and this afternoon even after the rain and snow we cleaned our stock trailer to dump what we cleaned out of the stock trailer on it so we can plow it under. I was quite surprised how well I was able to get in that with the skin I think a couple try sunny days we might need to put the flowers in the ground here the question is when are we going to get a couple dry sunny days? And by the way the old BN that we rebuilt last summer and then needed a new fan drive hub and a little touch-up work on the radiator is back together today I made a trip to New Bethlehem this morning and brought the parts home and she's purring like a kitten again! Was really pleased to hear it run

Grease your bearings ESPECIALLY if the piece of equipment is stored outside!! It's all fun & games until a bearing goes to hell because water got in the bearing, sun baked the grease to a fossilized state, etc. Then it's all over but the sniffles!😂

I'm not very familiar with the belly pump. The standard tread tractors have live hydraulics with the pump in between the timing gears and distributor or magneto just like the late Farmalls have. But what you said applies to them too. They are lower pressure so they require a larger cylinder, and keep the hydraulics full of oil. I'm not sure about the belly pumps, but the standards have a " tin can" hydraulic tank and they only hold about 5 litres of oil. On them though, it's probably better to use engine oil in case the seal goes on the pump and leaks oil into the crankcase, although we also sometimes use Hy-Tran for the same reason you do... You can buy an equivalent to Hy-Tran at a bulk petroleum dealer. The new Hy-Tran is synthetic and therefore highly expensive. It's not necessary to use synthetic in an IH tractor as they never had synthetics then.

What's happening when the fluid gets low? I'm assuming the pump cavitates and tries to pump air? Seems like the real problem is that "Full" line on the dipstick is too low for what should be properly full to prevent that, eh? Is it possible to overfill? Shouldn't be if all you're trying to do is keep fluid in and air out, right?
@FarmallFanatic
@FarmallFanatic 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't added fluid in 5 years and didn't need to add that much to make a huge difference. Just pulling the lines off the remotes will make you lose some fluid, and over the years, a little adds up. I agree the dipstick is off

Supposedly, CNH is using Shell to manufacturer hy-Tran now and it’s not rated for the older stuff with TA’s and it’s quicker to break down. Not sure how true it is as I’ve only heard it from one guy. the old manufacturer was a brand called viscosity and their ultraction original is what hy-Tran used to be

@@JeepWranglerIslander bigger the better. Some of the old loaders that were on these tractors were 4 inch by 8 foot.
@tyfrank3427
@tyfrank3427 2 жыл бұрын
@@JeepWranglerIslander It never does get too big to push. The bigger it is, the more force you have. The downside to bigger is it's slower. Another potential problem with a cylinder that's big is the limited oil capacity in the tank. I'm not sure about the Farmall belly pump but the standard tread equivalent to a Farmall M is a W-6. They use a cylindrical tank about 7" in diameter and a foot long so they don't hold a lot of oil. I've seen bulged hydraulic tanks on those tractors when they use the original hydraulic systems on loaders for that reason. That being said, it's the rod diameter, rod length and number of cylinders that affect that, and not the diameter of the piston.
