How to install a lock right lunchbox locker in a Dana 30

Specs below
If your differential case or thrust washers are excessively worn, your new Lock- Right Locker may not be able to operate as it was designed. Therefore, two easy measure- ments must be made before final assembly to assure that your new locker will function properly. To make these measurements, proceed as follows:
1) Remove the existing spider gears, side gears and thrust washers from the differential
case, and thoroughly clean it.
2) Install both Lock-Right couplers with the existing thrust washers in each end of the case. 3) Place the spacers onto the centers of the couplers (wide side toward the axle splines if
not symmetrical), and hold them there.
4) Install the pinion shaft; carefully guide it past the spacers as it is being inserted through
the holes in the case.
5) Measure the gap between each spacer and the pinion shaft with a feeler gauge. This
gap should be between .005” and .020”, with not more than a .008” difference between the two. If your numbers are within the limits specified, remove the parts and begin your installation. If your numbers are not within these limits, check the thrust washers and the differential case. If they are excessively worn or are damaged, they may need to be replaced before installing your new Lock-Right Locker
Be sure that the vehicle is safely blocked. Leave the axle assembly on the jack stands, with both tires free to rotate and the emergency brake off.
2. Put the transmission and transfer case in gear to lock the drive shaft.
3. Rotate one of the tires in the forward di- rection with your hand until it stops, then hold it. That side of the LOCK-RIGHT is now locked.
4. Rotate the other tire in the opposite (reverse) direction. The LOCK-RIGHT should “click” as the coupler attached to the axle rotates.
5. Rotate the first tire in the reverse direc- tion and hold it; repeat step 3, rotating the other tire in the forward direction.
6. Repeat steps 2-4, rotating and holding the second tire to lock the second side.
Ring gear to case bolts: 55 ft lbs. Differential bearing cap bolts: 57 ft lbs. Service re-torque: Ring gear to case bolts: 45 to 65 ft lbs.

Thanks Ronnie. I just installed a monkey grip which is identical to the lock rite in my CJ 3.54 carrier. Thankfully I saw your video and now I know to disassemble it all again and check tolerances. An extra 15 minutes now will save hours and extra dollars spent down the road should something go wrong due to poor tolerances.

I know its a yr later but would this locker fit in a dana30 vari-lok carrier? My clutch packs have gone very bad. Its lifted AWD v8 with a 247 and 32in tires. And I cant find rebuild kits for it so I am doing a locker.

So I installed this locker, now while driving slow or driving at all it will pop, then lock my steering wheel. Mainly turning left. Any idea on the fix? Would really appreciate it!

Hey does this completely lock it up or does it allow the wheels to spin differently on corners. Was considering this as im fixing to regear mine but i dont have cad and dont want to break stuff on the street.

What happened to measurements so you know it in spec case you have to add washer's or make smaller , this is the most important part of doing these as mine works perfectly in my rear Dana 35 1993 Xj 😲

In the manual they give you a in-between measurements. The same measurements will not work with every diff that’s why I didn’t put it in the video

You can’t get the pen out unless you grind down a gear depending on the gearing you have the pen hits the ring gear on 355 gears

he missed an important step. you have to measure tolerances. if it is out it wont work. save yourself some headache and do the measurements. you may have to buy some side gear shims for $10 to make it right
