What determines the need to reduce gas pressure? Would simply swapping to a slightly heavier buffer do the same job?
@PXCharon4 жыл бұрын
Swapping buffers is a gross adjustment. Something you might do to make sure a rifle is cycling in the first place, without excess wear or unbearable recoil. Gas adjustments are fine tuning. Maybe for cold weather, altitude, higher or lower pressure ammo. And a thing to make the rifle behave exactly as you want after everything is installed.

On the barrel with the undrilled port, that looks like one of those crappy Davidson Defense uppers. I've seen that compensator on many terrible uppers. Another way to ensure you’ve got the hole of the gas block/gas port properly lined up - run a 15” length of 0.05” string trimmer line or fishing line through the gas tube from the receiver end, then look through the barrel with a light. You should see the end of the line in the barrel coming through the gas port hole. If not, you’ve done something wrong.

Red Loctite??? Oh God no!!! Besides Red Loctite is only good up to 450 F, which is why you need to heat it up with a torch if removing the screw. Any rapid firing AR platform can reach that temp. If I NEVER intend to remove the gas block again, I "might" use Red, if there is any chance that I'm gonna need to remove the block I wouldn't use Red Loctite. As a side note, I've heard that you can use Brake Parts Cleaner to dissolve Red Loctite. Just spray it on and let is soak for about 45 mins. CRC was the brand that was mentioned. I haven't tested it myself, but there are KZbin videos about it.
@iprodigy67232 жыл бұрын
Brake cleaner has a drying agent in it, it'll be dry in under a min. You would need brake cleaner in a bulk container for the liquid for soaking but brake cleaner will also strip finishes. I do agree with no on red, I'd use blue, I've used blue on bolts and screws that are near high heat auto parts and haven't had a bolt or screw back out.
