Jim, your vid is really good & great refresher lesson - thanks a lot. We watched it again installing a new BB & Thunderbolt SD cranks. for my various MTB frames, about 10 years ago I got similar "home made" tool from some guy on internet (nicely made but rip off price - i'm lazy). Dont use a rubber mallet or hammer & wood block!

I'm eventually going to build myself a bearing press. One of my needed parts on my bike list is an Odyssey Mid BB for customization purposes. I hope ODSY makes a set with a pink dust cover because I prefer that the cover stands out from the frame and crank arms.

Thanks for the excellent video Jim. Q: Does the PUCH 'track pro' BMX use the american or mid bottom bracket ?

Your push bushing on your homemade press should be big enough to push the outer race, but small enough to not touch the frame.

Exactly what I was going to say. The bearings aren't designed to take sideways force. By pushing the center bearing race, the force has to go through balls, cage and then outer race which will cause damage. And it'll also cause damage if your tool pushes on the bearing shield.

question, i have a Sunday Blueprint 2015 (yeah ik its shit, but it works for now and im building off of it) the bottom bracket is a 19mm American. currently theres unsealed bearings. so do i insert the bearings in like this inside the sleeve then put the dust caps on? or what?

I have just fitted a new bb... The only thing is.. it creaks!? What causes this to happen? I have the spacer in..
@ThatTURK112 жыл бұрын
idk y but when i use my hands to pedal back something in makes it harder everytime i spin my crank is there any explanation for that because i think everytime i do that im damaging something in there. also before that i recently tightened it and when i tightened it i noticed it

@brandonw1997 when you take off your old bottem braket, look at the spacer and it should be engraved onto the spacer. it should be on the outside of it...then you get that same size. hopes this helps :)

@bikelife_esp6 жыл бұрын
Andrew O'Brien It depends on what cranks do you have, If you have 19mm ones obiusly you need 19mm bearings

what is the name of the tool that was used to push in the bb's ?
@bmxriderforlife12348 жыл бұрын
+thomas cruz bottom bracket tool i believe another way to do it is basically a 2x4 lay it over the bearing then hammer the wood gently till the bearing goes in

BMX riders neglect their bottom brackets, they should just use plastic bushings with plenty of friction. Also, what happened to the grease on the second bearing cup? As for parts not fitting perfectly, that's just due to the shitty machining and quality control of freestyle BMX frames. They're not a precision machine, and are very rarely treated like one. Now that we've got an abundance of every man and his dog starting their own BMX companies, the mass produced Chinese frames are just the same of garbage everyone else is reselling, regardless of what they charge you for it. Also, where my background in cycling is, 4130 CrMo is the cheap stuff, and High Tensile steel is used for things I don't even consider to be a valid bicycle.
