Great tutorial... The symptoms on my car was clear and unmistakable. Alternator was smoking and smelled like burning plastic. Also had a dull squeal as well. finally the generator fault indicator came on.

Great tutorial! Just an info that not all N62 engine uses air-cooled alternator. My E66 735Li uses a water cooled alternator which is more expensive to repair/replace.

Awesome Video, very clear and lots of useful tips. Checking voltage at my battery when running is showing 15+ volts, and I'm getting spurious errors, including battery discharge (new battery fitted) and tyre warnings etc, assumed this is the voltage regulator on the alternator providing too much voltage, am I right? you mentioned the power module managing voltage, please explain? Thanks - feel like I can tackle this job after watching your video

Glad it helped. Power module can give errors like you describe. Its a box near the fuse box in trunk if its a seven series. If i recall, it goes, alternator to power module, then to everything else that is electronic. Starter i dont think goes through power module. ecologicaltime Thanks, it’s a new battery and it’s the same one. I have coded it into the car. The alternator is off at the moment waiting on a new VR, once back together I’ll check the power module if I’m getting the same issues. The old VR is a chimes copy so that’s my main suspect right now. Cheers J

What were the symptoms on your car before doing alternator.

low battery voltage -below 12V. Start your car and if the Voltage is lower than 13,5V you have an electrical problem. Power module does adjust the voltage so wait a little for the module to ramp the voltage up. Takes about 30seconds.

I changed my transmission oil and sleeves on it I then put everything together tried to start my car and nothing. The r n d were flashing. Car wouldn't go into park. Dash said parking brake malfunction. Low voltage . I checked battery it read 12.23 you think it could be alternator

@@Shas4Ever yes I got it running again the plug wasn't connected all the way. But car still shows transmission failsafe program. Do I need to reset that.

@@tacomanchanic7898 Reset the transmission error fault using INPA or ISTAD, and reset the transmission valve adaptation.
