What is your response about the ceiling joist and the I beam? I have heard it is not a good idea because the ceiling and flooring eventually give way as the engineered joist can only tolerate about 400 pounds,

Thanks for sharing the information. Advice for who wants to buy a rack: I made a mistake when I purchased an 8' x 3' and realized that the studs in my house are 2 feet apart and I did not know before I got the rack. It was not possible to mount the 3 feet width rack, returned it, and got the 8'x4'. (None of the instruction videos on youtube mention this issue with 3 feet wide rack)

Every picture and video I see of these mounts, the roof bars that attach to the studs, run parallel to the base. Yours seem to be mounted perpendicular to the base. Did you have to modify your set up to install them like that?

I bought one of these kits and the instructions said not to be used with I-joists and I have I-joists. I installed 2x4s perpendicular to the i-joists, hoping that would be strong enough.

something to help as well, is replace the garage door opener with the Liftmaster 8500. It mounts on the side of the garage door, so you have a ton more celing space

i noticed you bolted the rack along the same joist as the garagae door rail vertical bars - have you noticed any issues with having done that? i would think that when the garage door is up that its weight is added on top of your racks' weight on the same joist?

Do you have trusses or actual joists. I don't know that I would add this to a trussed roof as they are usually not engineered to support extra weight.

16 inches is pretty standard, sometimes 24 and sometimes they're farther apart than that

Did you look into whether these fleximounts void the warranty on your ceiling joists? I-Beam construction is not intended to carry any load underneath, as I understand.

so is the depth fro ceiling adjustable. not sure my ceiling is high enough over the open garage door to provide enough storage capacity.

Yes its adjustable. It goes down to 22" in height. If you needed it shorter than that I guess you would have to cut it.
