This video is a tutorial on installing our Hercules SkyPoly pergola cover, the most premium system we offer. The Hercules features four walls of polycarbonate, blocks 100% of UV Rays, but still lets through a ton of light. The quadruple-layer of polycarbonate means it offers more rigidity, thermal insulation, strength, and solar heat gain. It has aluminum frame around the outside and a stainless steel clip fastening system. This system is commercial and residential grade.

I have 4" x 12" (nominal) rafters, 24"oc. Will that be enough to support your sloped shims? Total length of the shims would be 10', I'd love it if I could overhang about 18"-24"- is that possible?

With a gabled installation what would you use for a ridge cap? And then with "flat" section on each side of the center gabled section how would you flash the interface to prevent leakage?

We recommend getting an aluminum ridge cap made. Most people just get some rolled flashing and bend it over the sheets but you can also use 90 degree flashing and place that on top. Would use the same 90 degree flashing on the flat side to prevent leaks.

Looks like a great product! How do you do an L shaped where 2 roof sections come together at 45 degrees and with a down slope? Do you have a way to make a 45 degree seam or even some other custom angle seam and cap it? Thanks!

I have a an installer wanting to add slope by having a step down starting with 2x8 at where the pergola is connected to the wall(flashed). Every 2-3 feet the 2x8 would be cut down, laid parrelel to the house in pergola all the way to the end affectively creating the slope. Then the panels set on top and screwed. Would that be exceptable?

A 2x8 board is a good start but the size of board you start with is all dependent on the length of your pergola. We call this method lateral shims and it is an easy and effective way to add slope to a flat structure. We recommend placing a board every 18” so that you avoid a wavy effect from the sheets. The goal with this method is to ensure that the last board is as close to 0” as possible but this is an acceptable method.

If the side sheets screw into the purlin on the out side and the shim on the inside, the top end needs to bend 4” to meet the purlin changing the sheet slope direction?

Hi - you'll need shims on the outside as well to be able to secure the outer aluminum trim/panel.

Hi - it's recommended to start the install in the middle and the last sheets will be split in half to attach the edge profile so it's even on both ends of the structure. We recommend getting a professional to install the flashing. It's not really a DIY unless you have experience doing it.

Hi - You can use a track saw on our Apollo system since it's a flat sheet system. You won't be able to use it on our Hercules system because of the standing seam.

So your drilling and screwing the caps to the structure that will leak. Make sure you use self taps with rubber washers and 100% silicone as back up if you must drill through. Better yet skip Hercules panel and just buy metal or plastic standard at Home Depot
