In this video we detail the correct method of assembling and installing the variator in a 50cc Piaggio Hiper2 engine. There are a few crucial steps which need to be followed in order to avoid damaging your transmission, and crankshaft!

Good one! Something simple that is constantly ignored. I've got a Runner revving 12k rpm with a stage6 variator, no teeth. Even with the fan properly installed i'm on my 3rd fan from S6 in a year!! Those things break so easily its absurd specially in hot weather, but at least they are cheap, around 10£

Very nice video as always! Do you have any tips regarding increasing the CVT area cooling? Larger scooters have pretty big air filters for CVT air intake as well as some exhaust holes. My CVT cover is too hot to touch after most rides (perf exhaust, 5g rollers, yellow springs, green contra) and i want to improve the cooling a little. I thought about making few holes with carbide bit where the clutch bell is to make the hot air escape. Do you have any experience with these mods?

Hi Matej, We did exactly that for our race scooters by adding cooling holes. The manufactured race covers have vents and holes for additional cooling. You have to take care of water making its way into the Transmission parts. Flow in at the front of the cover and pass through to the rear of the cover.

hello I watch your channel a lot I have a question I have a piaggio fly 50cc 2t year 2011 I changed the entire drive to a malossi multivar 2000 how to increase the engine speed speed on a straight 75kmh 8200 rpm can you increase to 10000 rpm CDI is original thank you for your answer greetings

@@czarecki80 I do this simple test with the CDI restriction. I park the scooter on the main stand with the front wheel against the wall. Start and max RPM the throttle. If there a cut out of the engine it will be obvious.

Great video. I accidently made the mistake of overtightening one of the bolts on the transmission cover, stripping the thread. What do you think I should do from here.

Thank you. The trans cover has 9-12 bolt points so it it not a drama if one is no longer in use. Best fix is tap and thread or if the bolt hole has clear access to the rear then you can screw through and bolt and nut it.

Hi Rixxcs, Yes the 70 kit is an excellent upgrade to the engine. As with any early models showing wear upgrade the worn part as you go or something will fail sooner. We use Malossi for several reasons but just go with what is provided by your local Scooter Shop. Where are you locted?

@@RixxVAL03 Check the Malossi website and find your scooter model, you will see a list of cylinder that apply and you can choose from there according to budget and so on. The Sport kit is good place to start if you are new to the upgrade game.👍

hey when ii am instaling the nut should the fan move or should it be still. another question is that should the outside pully move when i wriggle it a tiny bit?

The fan should be locked in place and not move. You may need a shim to allow the nut more pruessure the the fan and the star nut.

Thank you👍. Trial a few different roller weight sizes, the standard 7.5 so try a set of 6.8 or 7Gram. Take the jet up until there is a splutter and then lean the main off, needle set to 2nd clip from top. Clutch spring set will help too.

happened to me. thank god i stopped the engine fast because i could hear the fan ripping apart and the burning smell. I only had to replace the fan which cost 8 dollars

This happened to me once. Cooling fan was shredded. Strange thing is tho, that it run fine for 4000km after the variator maintenance was done. Makes me wonder what really happened there.

Hi I’ve put a polini 70cc top end on my scooter it’s a piaggio hyper 2 engine. Will it last with the standard crankshaft? I’ve read online it’s a fairly low revving kit compared to malossi and I do have heavy rollers in so it’s not revving all that high at all. Oil pump is maxed out too so it’s well lubricated!

Yes it will, but if you get the opportunity to upgrade then do so.

Does the fan actually pull outside air into the case. Or just circ.air within the case?

Yes it does both, the fan circulates the air inside the case, it pulls air in from the front, you can see the air intake inline with the oil pump (black circular with small internal filter) and and outlet at the rear of the case facing toward the ground.

It can be saved, new nut and thread correction tool. Dont on/off too many times.

Hi guys I have a hi bhp race minarelli horizontal with a 55% polini rear contra spring but the belt still slightly slips. I can’t seem to find a stronger spring than that I have heard of a 82% spring but not that I can find. Any ideas or part numbers you know of which I could get.

Its virtually impossible for the belt to slip, unless your transmission has oil or something in it. The V belt and pulley design is such that more power only forces the belt into the pulleys with more force, rather than slippage. I would say more likely if something is slipping it will be the clutch.

No, it must have the cooling fan.. very short rides you may be lucky but longer rides generating heat will cause issue with the transmission parts..

A friend tightened mine incorrectly, the fan shattered, shredded the belt and then the crankshaft developed a wobble 😢

@@scooterstreetau Yes, heat is bad, but on my scooter there is no way for air to get into the cvt area, and i doubt that there is a LOT of heat in the transmission area.

Check the connecting splines, there may be damage on the teeth controlling the contact points.

Hi K, I don't know your reference when asking, but adding shims to the varaitor allows the spread of the front faces in an attempt to have the belt sit at the lowest part of the V in idle, it can be used when fitting a new belt, variator. Great idea for a video👍👍

what a stupid idea. plastic fan as plastic becomes brittle after time and breaks apart. isn't there a metal alternative replacement made for the fan.

Yes! Polini have a complete Aluminium Fixed face with fan included, brilliant solution.
