Informative video! But of course it took me 3 hours to complete this task. Starting with the sight that was so badly bent that it would not move. I had to drill out part of the windage screw. The icing on the cake was when the tiny spring launched the plunger across the room! But...I used a heavy duty magnet (Harbor Freight) tied to a length of rope and drug the magnet over the carpeted floor several times. I found the plunger! Task completed!

Somewhere in my living room are a few plungers and a spring. This is a better video than the other one from midway about sights. I ended up completing this task in my bath tub, as to not loose anymore plungers. Yes, I am single... how did you guess?

I also struggled getting the old spanner nut out. I sprayed it with oil, wouldn’t budge. Finally heated it up with my wife’s hair dryer (when she wasn’t looking) and then it broke loose pretty easily. Smith and Wesson must have put some loctite in there.

Tip. Do this in a small bathroom, close all drains and seem the bottom of the door. This way you might find the spring and plunger when they don’t cooperate

I had a lot of trouble getting the old sight blade out, after the head was broken off of the windage screw. It would have been a good idea to put a drop of oil on the sight blade and move it back and forth to full stop a couple times with the windage screw, before it is broken off. That would have helped free it up ahead of removal.
@scotttickner44559 жыл бұрын
I don't get how you get the plunger/spring to turn once in the sight body. The video skips that step. I get the screw/sight blade with spring & plunger into the sight body by using small needle nose to compress then push into sight body but screw will not turn with force. What am I doing wrong?
@MrNedsaabdickerson3 жыл бұрын
How many times did the plunger fly out of the windage screw? It flew away three time before I got it right. Thanks for this awesome video!!!!!
@arrowhd47482 ай бұрын
Turning the screw to the left to "break" is backwards. Causes the sight blade and spanner nut to tighten. Makes them very difficult to remove without drilling out the screw. Turn all the way to the right to "break" like in the Brownell video. Ask me how I know......

Larry. @2:07 Whats going on there. Bent screw ? The sight elevation is all over as you turn the screw..
@JeffinTD3 жыл бұрын
I think that is the detent plunger in the side of the screw going around. Not a very tight fit. In practice, get windage zeroed, then adjust elevation.

Oh, Mr. Potterfield. You have two versions of the same instructional video on KZbin. The one I watched neglected that little detail about the almost invisible spring and plunger pushed into the head of the windage screw. Also, in neither of the videos do you say what size Spanner bit is used. I bought 6 different bits, and none of them fit that slot. But since I insisted on doing it myself, I ended up losing the spring and plunger. Brownells, not Midway, to the rescue.

if you have an old school setup like on the old m and p revolver can you upgrade it with these type sights
@Bayan19058 жыл бұрын
Only if the gun came with adjustable sights. If it is a fixed sight version, then you would have to someone mill the top of the frame which would ruin the value. If you M & P was an older gun, and has the screw on the right side at the top of the frame (making it known as a 5 screw) you could get something known as a Wondersight and you could put it in that screw and it would give you an adjustable sight.
@kmekrine11699 жыл бұрын
Parts can be hard to find. So in addition to the sight blade, order a couple sight plungers and springs if you do this yourself--these fuckers are tiny and get lost easily. Better yet get a gunsmith to do it and save yourself the headache.
@johnsmith-dy8yb2 жыл бұрын
I have bought ten plungers off eBay and lost three already and still haven't got the blade back in. I just bought a magnetic sweeper to go over my kitchen floor - maybe I'll find them again. This video doesn't do justice to the difficulty of getting the plunger back in.
