I needed such valuable tutelage here,because the cylinder has such intricate parts.Putting even one tiny part in wrong or backwards in this machine means trouble! Enjoyed your comprehensive lesson.Thanks!

I learned from In Service Firearm Training Unit to never disassemble the cylinder ejector rod from my S&W revolver as it will cause a possible bent rod causing a problem opening up the cylinder. The proper way to assemble a revolver cylinder requires you to check the cylinder rotation whenever you remove it and torque it to factory specifications. The armory had special tools that was protocol when doing this. It was recommended to only clean the ejector star with a nylon brush to prevent crud from getting under the ejector star. They said it’s possible to damage the threads easily on the rod and cylinder. The reason people experienced a revolver jam is from a loose or bent rod.

I love the look of the un-fluted cylinders. I actually ordered one recently and am going to use this vid to swap it out. Thank you so much 🙏. The 686 is such a fantastic revolver

Excellent Video, thank you for putting this together. I followed the exact steps today on a 686-3 that was beyond filthy. You could eat off of it now, but I had to break the Cylinder assembly down into all of these parts to remove the lead, powder and scoring. It took Ballistol, a lead away cloth and a brass brush, but I got it.

I just purchased my first 686. It is a 686-6. Hopefully soon I will have a "-3" or "no dash" to add to my collection! I love this gun! ... This video is GREAT. I also like the complete disassembly and reassembly videos that you made. Can't wait to take the gun down . Thanks again for the video, I learned a lot.

I think the extractor rod is too loose and needs to be tightened more, as I do in the video.

Hey, on reassembly i forgot the thin rod with tiny spring and now cylinder is blocked and i cannot open it anymore. Any hints? Preferably without complete disassembly?
@MikeJack3 жыл бұрын
I think you should go to a gunsmith, the thin rod open the cylinder.

I want to upgrade from the 6 shot to the 7 shot. Do I have to replace the hand as well?
@MikeJack7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, you can ask Smith and Wesson.
@TommyRibs5 жыл бұрын
There is some tuning that needs to be done and the hand needs to be adjusted. Smith and Wesson can do it for you. You have to send them the gun, but they can provide the Cylinder and do the tuning for you.

Man I hope you got a discount for that unfinished cylinder, why do people pay more for less craftsmanship.. the flutes are what makes the cylinder look good.
