First time viewer and just wanted to say how refreshing your video was. A well structured logical flow of content (the review was a nice touch) along with the wiring diagram and a good intro giving context. Looking forward to going through your back catalog and seeing future vids. Love ya work from Downunder.

Thanks so much! We try to bring a little education to the game. Nice to hear that it's still appreciated.

Thanks for the detailed video! I have the older style DC/DC MPPT charger. The new one left me with questions about taking the heavier gauge wires and connecting the newer 6 AWG wires.

We're figuring out the engine charging parameters, as we have a smart alternator on our truck. We're really digging it right now. We'll be making another video about that soon, so give us a follow! Thanks for the comment.

How many volts can the new 50 amp charge controller handle?
@mvemersonАй бұрын
Great video. Very informative! One question if I may: will the app for the DC-to-DC charger allow you to limit the charge current from the alternator? I would like to add a single DC-to-DC that allows me to use the 7-pin harness (10-12Amp max) until I can upgrade to a dedicate wire run from the TV starter battery/alternator. I think there is also a case to limit the amp pull during idle and open it up when the alternator runs at higher rpm.
@FreedomInACanАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. If I read you right, you want to be able to upgrade and boost things later on. We are pretty certain that you can limit the charging parameters within the app for both engine source and solar source. Once it's paired with the app, you'll just go into settings and then adjust the specs to what you need. Great idea, get charging now, and then boost it later. Good luck, and let us know if you need anything.

Can you tell me if this can monitor the state of charge on the DC home app I can only see volts, amps, etc I want an actual battery percentage and how much is going in and how much is going out
@FreedomInACan2 күн бұрын
Yeah, I see your question, and thanks. The charger will monitor what's going into the battery, and it will give you battery charge voltage - but that won't show you state of charge. To see that better, a true SOC you can either go with smart batteries that have built-in BT capability, or plug in BT module, these will both connect to the DC Home app. Or you can grab the Battery Shunt 300, which you hook up to the battery (works with all batteries, all chemistries) and then allows wireless communication between shunt and the DC Home app. You can pick one of those up, renogy.sjv.io/1rLo3D Use our "CANLIFE" coupon code to get up to 10% off that or any Renogy purchase. Hope that helps!

Does the new version have active cooling (fans that come on when the device gets hot)? Thanks for the video. Subbed/liked!

@@ozmanfidaar6311 No, they have not included a fan on this one. We're in the process of testing this one out and will provide a longer test video later in the fall. Stay tuned! Thanks for the sub!

Hi I've been back and forth with renogy support and this device was getting 180 degrees on a hot day. Be careful there is no active cooling
@FreedomInACan3 ай бұрын
@livebrando thanks for the heads up, we'll keep an eye on it.

@@livebrando If no active cooling, it's a no-go in my books. I've seen people adding cooling fans to Victon units (supposedly a premium brand) and one KZbinr actually has shown how efficiency declines with the units heating up. I have a 15A Victron shore power charges, it does get hot and I wish they added active cooling fans.

Correction.. The older version will produce 50 amps. If you have zero solar. Why some people turn off their solar breaker when driving,. If you prefer. You can use a shore power 30amp charger in place of the Alternator connections. That way you can charge at night or day. This simplifies the extra cost of the #4ga wire all the way back to the batteries. Which 25 feet of 2x can cost $150.00 with fuses..As my alternator cost $450.00 if it goes out from over heating. So I can still charge 3x 100ah batteries in 6 hours. As i use 2x 250 watt BiFacail panels for a total of 500 watts. They out out 30 amps on a nice sunny day.. Which requires #8ga Solar cables to the breaker. After using 2x #10ga Y splitter off the panels. Be advised. If you have both solar and alternator at once. You only get 30 amps off the Alternator...So you have to turn off the Solar breaker to get the full 50 amps..

Our older unit was a 30A charger. And the work around to get full engine output on a charger with two inputs is a good one. One thing that's nice about this 50A DC2DC with MPPT is that you can program when to turn off the solar input when low, so you don't have to install a switch on the solar input. You can set it as high as 10A, so you can get the most out of the driving amps. Not sure that I fully get your 30A shore power charger idea. Please explain.

Should I be worried about the amount of bad reviews this thing has on Amazon?
@FreedomInACan25 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for the honest question. I looked at those comments, and a few of them are in the "axe to grind" category. Only one pertains to the actual product. And the one claiming to not work, "out of the box" was posted in March 2024, and we were one of the first ambassadors to get ours in July, so questionable. There's a lot of Renogy hate out there. While there have been real issues with customer service, for sure, we've used these products for years without any complications. But here's some feedback on this 50A unit. The key to getting better charging amps with it when charging LFP batteries is setting the forward charging volts lower, and the stop forward charging volts limit on the DC home app when connected. Once we did this, we found a whole lot better performance than we'd previously seen. We're hoping to get to making a short video about this issue, but we've haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I think this unit has some quirks, but still worth it for the power and the size. Hope this helps.
