How to Install a Richmond Lock Right lunchbox locker Part 2

It’s time to finally install this locker. I bought Richmond Lock Right based off a few recommendation from people that have used them, and because it was on sale. Even though I read the directions (well most of them anyway), I still made a few mistakes that made this install process take twice as long as it should have. Still, even with all that, start to finish it was a 2hr process, not bad at all. Hopefully this helps anyone looking to install one of these for themselves.

Hopefully you got away with it but there are some feeler gauge measurement that should be made to see if you the correct gap between the cross pin and spacers.

You're a better man than I sir. I don't have the strength the accept that some parts of the vehicle are just going to be dirty.. I spent hours cleaning the diff cover and housing before putting it all back together when I changed my pinion seal and diff cover gasket.. Thanks for sharing the mistakes too.

I cleaned off the important parts 😀. I am going to scrape off and clean the whole rear axle sometime soon, maybe even throw some undercoating on it.

Thanks for the vid...I was worried about the micro measurements but I guess they dont matter. How did it work out...

For this kind of locker the measurements like pinion backlash and tooth contact patterns don’t really come into play because you are not removing the ring or pinion. It worked fantastic.

It’s really not too bad, the springs and pins are the worst part, other than the smell of gear lube 😀

id love to see a little test video of the locker!! Also i just watched the brake conversion. if i went to the junk yard i could pull those brackets off a sn95 sold rear Axel?

The brackets came off a 98-04 V-6 for mustang. A for explorer of similar age May work as well. yes you could probably find these parts in a junkyard. I sold the truck so I can’t test the locker, but after I put it in you could feel it ratcheting around corners and if you stabbed the throttle in a corner they would squeal from locking up.

It’s a baby locker so slightly better than a posited toon unit, but not as strong as a full blown locker or air locker. But it’s waaaay cheaper and easier and will work just fine as long as it’s a mild build.
