Using a saddle valve on galvanized pipe not recommended. i read that somewhere.

Ben Str saddle valves will not be installed by any reliable plumber... they should never be used.

Nice video and explanation of how to install this valve on galvanized pipe. But you never ever use Teflon tape on the threads of a compression fitting. It's a waist of time and effort not to mention most of the time it makes a greater risk of a leak at a compression fitting than not using it. So nowhere on this valve should you use it. The one possible exception might be on the threads where the body of the valve screws onto the saddle. But there should never be any water pressure on those threads so again waist of time.

If you install it properly you shouldn't have any problems

YT is full of videos showing saddle valve installation that should be taken down. The place we moved into has two on a pipe in a very tight spot (ice maker and humidifier) that, fortunately, are not leaking yet. Going to be a major PITA when they have to be replaced.

I've had a saddle valve installed for a cappuccino maker under my kitchen sink and it's never leaked in ten years.

Richard keep an eye on it, mine was there for about the same before it leaked.

There was one under my sink for the fridge line for at least 15 years with no problems that I never noticed. Nevertheless, when we replaced our fridge recently and I discovered it I replaced it with a tee valve. I feel much more comfortable.

DO NOT USE THESE !!!! They should be banned from sale. How in the world could someone think that putting a HOLE in a water pipe would be a good idea. Where is the shut off when this thing leaks at 2AM like it did in my house ? Thousands of dollars of damage for a $2.50 piece when doing it correctly may cost $25 for the right plumbing materials. Just please...take my advice - do not use these. AND...if you have one, replace it because it WILL leak. One last thing...it will deteriorate more quickly if you have well water or water with more silt in it.

have you seen the video? that is exactly the point I try to make
