Great video Mr.Sessa.I don't know why anyone would ever use a saddle valve when there are options such as compression fittings and compression valves. If for any reason I cannot solder I will use compression fittings and compression valves.I have had to work on pipes that had saddle valves and I can honestly tell you that saddle valves are a leak waiting to happen.Thank you for the vidoe and God bless you and yours Mr.Sessa.

Bob, had one of those saddle valves that corrosion caused a leak into my cellar. Agree not to use them because they are junk. Like those combination valves, where you don't lose supply to facet if you have to turn off supply.

Amazing instructional video, thanks a lot. Suggestion/thought, could you do a video on major code changes on plumbing for residential? I try to keep abreast on plumbing, however you would know more about the changes every three years than myself. Thanks again for a great video.

Great video in a long series of great videos. Thank you for the shared knowledge. Two years ago we downsized into a ranch house with a full basement. House was built in 1948 with galv. pipe and later re-piped with copper. In a three foot piece of 3/4 copper lateral in the basement I found three saddle valves (two abandoned, one in use for icemaker) and an abandoned capped tee ( patched with epoxy putty). This week I finally got to this issue for repair and removed it all and replaced with new L copper pipe and a tee with a ball valve and compression fitting for the copper icemaker line and added an inline water filter. The interesting thing I found when removing the quite robust and well made saddle valve in use, was that it had a UPC code stamp on it. I never saw a listed saddle valve before, have you seen this?

I have a saddle valve into the copper pipe in the ceiling below the kitchen. Could you show the correct way of doing that with 1/4 inch copper pipe. Thank you, Bob!!

Installing a saddle on 1/4" copper pipe? Never tried it, not a good idea!

Wouldn’t be so bad if they made them out of brass. I still wouldn’t use them though.

Saddle valve are awful, they always leak, I don’t use them anymore; I use 1/4 turn valves for a humidifier

Those saddle valves are an accident waiting to happen. Much better a tee and separate valve.

They absolutely are, terrible they even sell them.
