Just a tip. If you cant for soke reason get it to fit in front of the cats. REMOVE the o2 sensor and it will slide right out.

It’s not a ground wire it’s a signal wire starters are self grounding

That small wire is the switch wire (hot with key in start position). That's not a ground.

How long does after market starter last I paid 640 for my starter from dealer thinking it’s better last longer when advance auto part had it for 275

You can get the same starter they sell at the dealership online for under $200. Mercedes does not manufacture starters. They buy it from Bosch or Seg Automotive.

Call the dealership parts dept. Give them your VIN.

How did you know it was the starter? Did you get a code with the scanner

No. I heard the starter solenoid click, but it would not turn. This one was easy to diagnose. You can apply 12v to the starter directly. If it does not respond, replace it.

Looks easy. Shops asking for over $600 to replace starter.

Right. This is not a difficult job. You can DIY with a few tools.

I have 10 S550 4matic and the Mercedes dealership wants $1100 and Christian Brothers wants $900. I'm really protective about my car .I found someone who can do an it for half the price. I don't l know. This car is to expensive to let anyone touch it!!

@@Dying_Breed.300 Thanks for responding....I just had it towed to Mercedes . It was the starter and relay switch. Total cost $900 . So I went for it . I was tired of searching for others people don't really want to work on cars like that... She runs perfect now...Thanks

Ok so I have a cls550 and it turns over but sometimes it lags. Went to autozone they tested my battery and starter. I found a used oem starter for 120 on eBay. How hard is it to install?

What’s up with the over explaining the battery lead/wire needing to be disconnected? And I’ve never heard anyone refer to the catalytic converter like that…. Lol.
