There is a tachometer signal-wire connector on the firewall, right next to the wiper motor. I think it was included for vehicles equipped with Tachs. I wire-clamped a tach-wire to it and ran wire through a firewall hole, up by the fuse box to a mini-tach that I mounted using double-sided Velcro.

Thanks for posting this. I just installed a tachometer in my 1993 Sonoma today with the help of this video. If you would like to get rid of the delay when you start it you can hook the positive wire to IGN instead of ACC.

If you pull the carpet back on the passenger side up by the firewall you will find a wire the same color as the one on the coil. It should have a connector in the middle of the wire. This is the wire you disconnect when setting the timing on your 1st gen s10. This is the Tach wire. You could do the install without running a single wire outside the cab of the truck. Makes for a cleaner install.

I'll look for that when i do mine on my 92 S10. Ive been wanting one bad. I have to put in a aftermarket temp gauge so i'll do it at the same time. My temp gauge jumps up and down out of control. I assume its broken.

Are you referring to the tan wire with the black stripe on it? It's underneath where the heater core is.

Thanks for the heads up! Do you, or anyone by any chance know where I can get a wiring diagram on the first gen of these vehicles?

I plan to install a tachometer in my 1991 Chevy s10 and this video is perfect. My vehicle is a manual and I'm not really a fan of listening to the sound of the engine to guess rpm and relying on the "shift" light, lol

this exactly, i hate just listening to it lol

I like how you mounted the tach. using that screw means you don't need to drill holes or mess up anything with the dash. Keep it original!

My truck doesn't go past 500 on idle in drive and at 500 in park I don't know why the idle is so low does anyone know
@endersphel73982 жыл бұрын
May I ask the year and model of your truck? To me, it sounds like a stuck idle air intake. Most vehicles should start at a high idle until they warm up a bit, then they should drop to roughly 650rpm. However, it can be a wide range of things causing such a low idle. To help, I'd really need more information
