Nice video, for safety there should be some mention of disconnecting the power and de-energizing the capacitor before beginning the disassembly.

Thank you for the feedback. We do have a note to turn the power off at the breaker before removing the motor at :34. We discuss discharging the capacitor at 2:00 but I agree that it should have been mentioned at the beginning.

My current Hayward pump is an uprated .75hp pump for a 22k gallon in ground pool. Should I replace it with the .85hp vgreen VS motor, or would it be better to use the 1.65hp version? Would it be more efficient since I wouldn't run it at 100%.

Can you tell me what that threaded elbow you threaded into your motor housing? I assume a simple 1/2" liquid tight connector? I have tried on mine and it only threads in about 3 threads. Yours looks to penetrate further. Even the nylon plugs they come with don't thread in very far.

Yes at approx 9:12 you are screwing on the elbow. Seems like a 1/2 liquid tight fitting and yours seems to thread on nicely. On any of the ports mine only screws on a few threads. Supposedly it is a 1/2 NPT

Appreciate the video. Is it easy to program the new motor if you're using an Intermatic timer for on/off of old motor?

Yes, you would still use the Intermatic timer to turn the V-Green 165 motor on an off jut like your old motor. Then you would program the V-Green 165 to run at a chosen speed(s) as well as duration during the set on/off time. From what I understand if you use a timer to turn the pump off and on, every time the vgreen schedule restarts. Which is fine as long as you know this. In other words, if the timer has the pump on for 12 hours, and the vgreen schedule is 16 hours, then the pump will only run the first 12 hours of the 16 hr vgreen schedule. This will be my approach since I have power to my pump, gas heater, and swcg all on the same power leg controlled by timer. Hth

I'm looking at that same motor. Century vs 1.65hp. It doesn't have an internal clock. I see it has a 24 hour cycle. My question is can I use my intermatic t104 timer to turn it off and on. Use that as my clock and then set motor to run on the intermatic timer schedule. For example on at 9am and off and 7pm and then program pumps three speeds to total 10 hours.

Ever have the VGreen 165 motor shut off while the programming continues on as if it is running? Have had this happen twice now where the only fix is cycling the power to the pump in order for it to reset.

At 10:13 there are to "green blue" copper wires unconnected, then it bypasses where they connect. What are they for and where do they connect? Thanks for having this video. I have a H SuperII and a 15yr old motor.

Those were bonding wires from other equipment. We connected one bonding wire to the back of the motor. Then we used a split bolt connector to attach all of the bonding wires together.

In the video, the 2 hot wire were color coded(red and black) in my wiring the 2 hot wire are of same color , at least the ground was color coded for green. Will it matter if it’s interchange? Hope for an answer

It doesn't matter which one of your hot wires go to L1 or L2. They are interchangeable. Connect one of the hot lines to L1 and the other to L2.

The was a good video but you forgot the slinger washer to protect the front motor bearing. You should always lube and install and new one every time you install a motor or service the pump.

What is the reason for using parts from the old pump?

A replacement motor doesn't come with items like the seal plate, impeller, or diffuser. It's just a motor. You can either reuse the old parts or order new parts.

You don't show how to connect the Hayward On Command system, and how the dip switches need to be set. Everything else is pretty simple.

Guys..is it really true that a Variable pump will save money? well , If i run it at a lower RPM then I would be filtering less water unless I keep the pump on more hours, agree? so , if i have a single speed pump that only runs a 3500RPM then I wouldbe filtering more water, agree? then all I have to do is figure it out the turnover rate which will be a lot less hours than a VS....so If I run my single speed that runs at 3500rpm at less hours then my VS pump at longer hours, it would be the same correct? Can you prove me wrong? I don't see how a VS pump can save more money...Am I missing another factor that can save me money? Please awaiting on your comments? Thank you in advance.

Hello George - Yes, variable speed pumps will save a significant amount of money. Are you familiar with the Pump Affinity Law? Essentially, it states that the power consumption drops at a non-linear rate as the motor speed and water flow are decreased. A 1.65 HP variable speed pump will draw 1500 watts running at high speed, 3450 rpms. If you reduce that to 2100 rpms (not even half speed), the watts are 395. @@Inyopools Thank you guys for the reply.....I guess thats what I was missing,,,,,the less wattage drop when it goes to 2100 rpms....I will study the law in more detail so I am up on the subject......

Another thing to consider is that if you are just pumping for solar heating and/or chlorinator injection and mixing, a slower speed is all that is needed.
