How to Install a Vinyl Railing

Bob and Kitana show you how to install a vinyl railing system. This particular railing is being installed on a concrete entry for a manufactured home in Morrisville, Pennsylvania.
This video provides some real good ProTips to help you with your project and a brief commentary on how to avoid problems with your purchase.

I don't know if anyone commented on baluster installation, but here goes. When you shortened the balusters you cut them off at the same angle as the railing, and needed "7" hands to hold them. Cut the balusters square when you shorten them, just like the factory, and the job becomes easy peasy.

When you return anything with missing parts just tell the employee it is missing stuff and to RTV the product. They sticker it and return to vendor. Pro tip

You make drilling the holes for the anchors look easy. They are a royal PITA. Mine definitely aren't even close to perfect but the railing is strong.

Nice video Bob. There were many tips I liked. *BUT* I noticed the balusters on the stairs don't line up. Right side vs left side. In other words the highest baluster on the right side starts at about 2-1/2" from the center post. On the left side it starts about 1-1/2" from the center base post. I couldn't walk away from a job like that.

I couldn’t agree more about Home Depot! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to exchange things because of missing or broken components. One time I purchased a lawnmower and someone’s old one was in the box! May I suggest when you have your final cuts on the ballasts for the rail add some vinyl cement glue to help stabilize then before adding final screws

Awesome video for me! Im pretty handy but one thing Ive never done is put vinyl railings up and need to at my place to replace the rotted metal ones. I'm so busy running my own business 6-7 days a week I tried to find a contractor to do this and put up railings around our pool deck and so Im 0-3 with guys not calling back, even after a friendly reminder so screw it! I'll just do it myself. Thank you!

The way you are doing the stair rails will put them out of code in some cities. They will be too short for where they measure the rail height

The Fiberon stair railing clips are always stolen. My first railing install from HD was last year, and took me two long days. I’ve done 35 now and gained enough self taught info to bang them out in a day alone. People pay me big money to install these things. Great side business.

@@BobsHomeServicesLLC Veranda sells the stair mount hardware on the shelves. Fiberon (which you installed) gives you the hardware included, but doesn’t sell them separately on the shelves. So if yo buy a 6-0 stair railing and want to use on both sides, for say a three stair staircase, you’re out of luck for a second set of hardware. Unless you steal that second set from another pack. 😂

I cut a 35 degree angel (what my stairs needed) from the very tip of each end of the ballast /----------------------------/ . The ballast were essentially no shorter, but the angles cut on each end allowed them to fit farther up into the rails. Mine then fit snuggly at each end of the ballast into the angled upper and lower sections of the stair rails. Otherwise - the top rail would have been too high. I was using the 8 ft stair railing kit. Go slow, measure & mark cut points very carefully
