Thanks, Leah, this was very informative, much better than the instructions that came with my fixtures. The ground wires information cleared up a lot of confusion about what goes where, got me thinking about the ceiling light I installed months ago🤔. On another topic, would replacing a bathroom ceiling vent fan be about the same as doing this? I'm not physically capable of climbing around in my attic, so I was hoping it could be something as simple as this and doable from the bathroom side of the ceiling, rather than from the attic side. If theres no ground in the box just white and black what do u put the other end of ground too. Wrap it to the green screw and that's it ? Or does it attach somewhere else

I have a ground wire coming off my light fixture, and a ground wire coming out of my box, but I do NOT have a green screw or anything at all on the bracket to attach either of the wires to. Just wondering: when screwing in the light bulb, wouldn't one want to use a tissue to avoid touching the bulb and leaving finger prints? Or don't energy saving bulbs get warm enough for it to matter?

Hello Herr, I'm careful when handling the higher temperature generating bulbs such as halogen, however, I have never had any bulb failure due to handling energy efficient bulbs.

Usually, only the halogen lamp bulbs are subject to this problem, due to the Quartz glass....

..I may be late w/ this, but the wire nut should twist the wires a few turns to show tightness.. That's the first thing an electrical inspector looks for... The ground wire should be twisted w/ pliers before the nut is even put on..

You don't need to put electrical tape on the wire caps like some people do. The caps hold it secure.

Electrical tape may provide a warm fuzzy feeling, but please don't rely on it for anything. If the wire nut is applied correctly, the tape won't help. If it isn't...then it isn't...and the tape may provide a false feeling of security...
