I don't think its necessary to drill the holes... i just screwed my back on and they stayed put!

The weights on the handlebars are J3, not phillips head

They are at the ends…they are 1 1/8 in the middle and taper to 7/8 at the controls

Are the bars 7/8” ?

Fat bars are 1 1/8 at the clamping area and taper down in diameter through the rise to the control area at 7/8.
