I know this video is old, and it wasn't 100% accurate to my 2021... but I had to reference this several times yesterday during my install because the provided directions were not the best - So thanks for doing this. It really did help me out for my install. Very much appreciated!

Thanks for the video. When I installed mine I left the boards off till the end so they didn't get in my way. I also unplugged the electrical connectors to make installing the taps easier. I have to say that I called AMP 2x for some help and they were very polite and helpful. Real easy to get in touch with.

So I installed my steps on a 2021 Tundra last night and had the exact same issue as you on the drivers side. After a bit of tinkering with it, the wire tap did not stab into the wire the first, or second try. I had to strip a little of the loom back to give me more slack and get that tiny blue wire perfectly straight then everything worked perfect.

I was wondering if you can manually over ride the boards so they will not come down under certain situations such as deep snow or when off road when hunting were there is a high spot the board may get caught on . Would it be possible to add a manual cut off switch or could you just discount the fuse at battery connection and the boards would not come down. I am getting ready to purchase a set for a 2020 tundra and once in a while I may not want them to come down. Thanks
@ETPCYT4 жыл бұрын
Hey there.. thanks for the question.. I know YOU can have them stay down if you want...I just went outside and tried to hold them up when I opened the door... They still went down... I think it would be possible to add a cut off switch without too much problem.. also I don't think any terrain or anything would damage them just from the force of the running board coming down.. they are quite sturdy.. unless you need to go off road and have your door open while driving I wouldn't think it would get hung up or do anything.. but for the instance where you might need to, I am sure just disconnecting the fuse would do the trick :) Grats on your new tundra btw :)

hmm.. there might be a way .. I know you can keep them from going up.. I am not sure if they have a default where if they encounter pressure they go back up

Nice video. I'm not quite done with my install yet but have finished up the driver side entirely. I tested it and am having the same problem you had with your front door not deploying the step down. I still have to finish up the passenger side wire tapping and wire connections but other than that I'm done. I'm going to finish that side of things and then go for a drive and hope the driver's door somehow resets itself and starts working. Any other ideas on how to troubleshoot that door?
@ETPCYT2 жыл бұрын
if i remember correctly.. after I unplugged the battery and replugged it back in. it seemed to correct itself.. it was definitely odd... I thought I had messed up on the wiring but disconnecting the battery and waiting about a minute or two then reconnecting did the trick.. I hope it helps my FRIEND :)
@steveknopf39542 жыл бұрын
@@ETPCYT I tried it last night, although seemed strange as I was doing it since I leave the fuse out so that's essentially like it not being connected to the battery. Anyways, nothing happened, didn't work. I'll be trying to possibly strip the wire a bit and re-tap it this weekend.

Still no luck on the driver's side front door deployment. I've tried several different tap connectors, I shaved a little bit of the covering off so the tap ons would have an easier time connecting and still no luck. I called Amp and they told me "keep trying". They're not much help. Not sure what to do next but probably call Amp and tell them I want to return them, which means a complete removal and re-packaging but I'm not going to keep these things if they won't deploy the door that gets used 100% of the time.
@ETPCYT2 жыл бұрын
that one wire was super rough for me.. the instructions weren't too clear.. I had it on the wrong one at first I think.. then got it right.. so all your other doors work but the front one driver's side just like my issue?... maybe triple check the wire.. man I wish I was more helpful.. I really want this to work for you.. mine have worked flawlessly since the install.. not a single issue and they are very nice when smaller kids or elderly need to climb up inside.. YOUR wire might be a different color than mine too.. I am sorry my friend.. I wonder if you could take it to a auto place and have them just check that out real quick?
@steveknopf39542 жыл бұрын
My problem is now fixed and resolved after days and three phone calls to Amp. Here's a summary below. Hopefully someone who encounters a similar problem will benefit and see this. Also, it might explain what happened originally to the OP. The wire leading from the harness to my driver side front door needed to be pushed into the controller more. That's it. It doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the quality of the work on the wiring harness and controller. It doesn't give me much confidence that the wires won't back out because of the vibrations of driving the truck but for whatever it's worth now, it's all working now. Thanks to all for your help!

He ANDREW.. I hope it's going good..Hmm.. I would check the connections on the motors if I were you.. When I installed these all the door activated the running boards except for the drivers door.. it was weird and I thought I had it hooked up wrong.. Then I disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it worked.. Maybe give that a shot bro.. Sometimes dirt or debris can get in the motor too or maybe mess up a connection.. Hopefully it is just a loose wire or something like that.. I hope this is helpful.. Take it easy bro :)

sorry I did not address this.. I don't know why I don't get notifications sometimes. it sounds like some kind of wiring issue.. they are tied into the doors some how.. if you can get the wiring diagram from the company and double check to see if everything is ok.. check the wires too see if any are loose

Here's a trick for finding the correct wire without punching holes in your wiring. Take a sewing needle and stick it into your wiring block , take a jumper wire with alligator clips , clip up to your power wire .if the steps don't work move to next wire saves alot of time .

Why do people make instructional videos of something they’ve never done before?

From my perspective it allows people to see the difficulties involved in installation and how to overcome them.. I try to include all the parts of installation in my videos including the problems I run into.. this is just in hopes that if others encounter the same issues they will be able to fix them.. :)
