Charge pipes may or may not increase horsepower on their own, but they certainly make your engine breathe easier and they make for fantastic supporting mods for things such as upgraded turbos, air intakes, and more! In this video I will show you how to replace your OEM charge pipe, which is known to fail over time, with a much smoother and stronger aluminum part.

Only took me 15 minutes to swap mine. I have the same exact car and had to replace mine because the stock charge pipe broke and blew off the intake. Got the same aluminum one as in this video although was branded VRSF. Still the same pipe. Took me all of 15 minutes to swap it out. Trick is to use a little light oil on the small end of the charge pipe and slide the silicone coupler as far back on it as you can. Then fit the larger end of the charge pipe to the intake (remember the O Ring). Once that is secured with the factory clip, slide the silicone couple forward and onto the plastic outlet. A little light oil on this end helps too. Make sure you have the hose clamps already over the coupler and as loose as you can make them so they slide around easily. Once you have it in position, tighten the hose clamps down. You can then wipe off any of the light oil left behind with Simple Green or your favorite cleaner. Super simple job once you know the tricks.

I also have a N55 335xi, I tuned my N55 4 months ago(all stock) with MHD tunning(im currently at stage 1+ tune). My charge pipe just blew 4 days ago on my way home from work. I wasnt even getting on it when she literally blew apart(it sounded and felt like my left front tire blew, but I instantly knew my charge pipe blew up). Whats funny was I raced another N55 the prior day, hitting speeds over 140mph(I blew him out of the water every pull), and my charge pipe survived that run(maybe I weakened it from that race session) So moral of the story kids, replace the damn plastic, crappy stock charge pipe, even if your car isnt tuned, those stock charge pipes are junk

I've just replaced mine and it's leaking somewhere. What is the best way to find the leak? I am almost certain it is at the TB. Should I try a new O-ring next?

I have same problem with the power steering line, right now the pipe is pressing against the line in my car, so i am wondering put the pipe under the line causeing any problem yet? if not, i may need to reinstall it.

I put the charge pipe under the lines and had no issues. I would definitely recommend that approach!

The charge pipe didn’t need the gasket from the original pipe ? I noticed you didn’t put the gasket in

Did you use an oring when installing ? Maybe that's why thats why there wasn't a good connection ,

I learned that a few weeks later lol...I forgot to transfer over the o-ring. It fits really snug now!

I installed both the bms intake and vrsf charge pipe I got a check engine saying reduced power now it went away and the service engine light came on. I have been trying to diagnose the problem but I don't know what it could be. does anyone have any ideas?when I drove it feels like it has less power when I try to accelerate, any help will be very much appreciated

Did you transfer over the o-ring from the stock charge pipe? I forgot to put that in my video (sorry about that) because I forgot to do it and I had reduced power until I realized that’s what was wrong. Basically, air was leaking out because the charge pipe wasn’t fully sealed against the throttle body

My plastic chargepipe blew at 77km. Stock N55. Luckily the broken bits fell onto the plastic tray.

I tuned my stock N55 4 months ago with MHD(running stage 1+ tune currently). My stock charge pipe lasted 4 months before it literally blew apart 4 days ago while easily accelerating. Needless to say, my cars been sitting for 4 days waiting for my new aluminum charge pipe to get here. BTW, buy MHD master tuner, im amazed at how much faster i am now, its night and day difference

can you also get a blow off valve on it ? got a 335i n55 xdrive 2011 , have now eissenman muffler (not the race) , hks air filter not the open one but wanne have that extra blow when shift but not wistle all the time one drive and looking a possibilty to get that . wanted the hks bov but anywhere i look i only find it wont go on it cause it got a build in bov in the enginepart or something.

This one doesn’t have room for a BOV but it does have room for an oil catch can.

What is a charge air duct? Is that the same thing as a charge pipe? My mechanic is saying I need to replace the charge air duct lol

Those are the same thing. Yours is probably cracked and leaking pressure.

Yes it’s the same pipe. BMW terminology is charge air duct. The stock OEM Charge Air Duct is a rigid plastic pipe that runs from the intercooler to the throttle body. On an E9X car with left hand drive, it’s on the driver side of the motor, just above the steering column shaft.
