The gravel underneath your slab will look very different than what they show. Also, why do you test when you have a monitor/ alarm?

Thank you for contacting AprilAire! The alarm is an audible indicator for the home owner if the fan stops working. The test is what detects radon, not the alarm.

Does it “have to” vent at roof line??? Is it ok to vent just outside of basement etc?

I already have the sub slab radon system with a pipe coming out and already routed to the walk up attic. The house was built last year. Even so a radon company quoted me $1250 for literally just installing the fan and they said they’re literally just installing the fan and then doing the testing…. Does this seem like a lot?

That seems a bit pricey but it really depends on how long it will take them. If it's as simple as swapping out the fan, as you said, they would be done quickly and it would likely cost less than that. It's possible that they would opt to remove the entire system and replace it with theirs since they don't know if the rest of the equipment was installed correctly or adequately. In that case, that is a cheap price.

We have super high Radon. Around 35 pCi/L. There is a sump pit with rusty metal liner. Not sure this will work for a radon pit?

@@bassboy6963My Mother In Law is 95 years old and didn't want the Radon addressed. She lived in that sick House for over 40 years and never had any health issues. A Radon Mitigation system can be installed by the Home Owner. If there is a slab basement floor, you need to create a slightly negative pressure under the slab to reduce Radon. The Radon pump I used from Menard's temporarily installed brought the levels down to around 4 pc/l. If I would have done a permanent install and sealed the concrete, I bet it would have dropped below 2. Good luck.

This is horrible to have a 4” pipe running along your siding. Why can’t you guys go through the house next to the other hvac venting is run up to the roof?

That’s up to the builder of the home . Can you imagine the work it would require to run pipe from the basement and thru the roof of a finished home? If there’s room to run pipe form the basement to the garage, and there’s a garage attic, that’s entirely possible.

I have a radon mitigation system that goes from the basement, through the garage then into the attic where the fan is located and then vents out of the roof. The major problem with this setup is that the cold air from the basement causes condensation on the vent pipe in the garage. This causes black mold to form. I installed insulation on the pipe, but the insulation also gets damp. In a couple of weeks I am having a new system installed according to the process that is described in this video. So, with my experience going through the house is a bad idea.

You do know that that's exactly what gutters do right? They run along the siding.
