On the amd metal panels they were black did you have to grid that coating off before welding or that coating is good to weld to.

Can you guys add the link for the spot weld remover tool used?

Great stuff. What prep is needed to later paint over the rust encapsulator which is over many contours that are difficult to reach?

Looks like Bill hooked you up at AMD. He's a good friend.

You should have welded the floor to the frame rails from top and use self tapping screws

I just found this series and so far I am loving it. what are the long term plans for it? it looks like it was a strait 6 car with a manual trans from the factory. I hope you plan to keep the I6. you don't see many I6 cars any more. everyone swapped them to big blocks back in my day, and the whole LS swap everything is over done these days. It would sure be cool to see a hopped up I6 under the hood in stead of a ugly LS. I would also keep the manual trans. those cars got decent gas mileage back then. I know you are a long way from paint, any ideas on the color? personally I think a metallic Eastwood Blue with a white bumblebee stripe on the nose would look awesome.

Why didn't you brace the car before taking the floors out
@jayhilliard43653 жыл бұрын
If you are removing complete flooring, 1x1 bracing should have been used. to keep the car from twisting and buckling.

where is the next one? looking forward to more please

Where is episode 9?
@SteveBueche10273 жыл бұрын
No bracing of the body before removing the floor? Was there and movement ? That car needs a good dipping for all that hidden rust you can’t see or get to without huge amounts of metal removal. Then a galvanized dip.
@GridIndustries5 жыл бұрын
Great stuff, but you have to be careful blasting sheet metal - i've seen it get warped to hell from sandblasting. A less aggressive media doesn't seem to cause any problems. Of course stiffer panels like rockers and floorpans wouldn't be an issue.

Anyone know why they do spot weld instead of a straight bead all the way round
@jdimeo19665 жыл бұрын
I assume to be "like the factory".
@GridIndustries5 жыл бұрын
@@jdimeo1966 Factory and to not put too much heat into the panel and warp it. Spot welds are just better for this application also.
@isbemorph5 жыл бұрын
Just like LoneRider has said, to prevent warping. And also such a multiple points structure is just stronger, then one big solid connection.

My OCD didn't like this episode. Total hack job.
@johnadona30142 жыл бұрын
yeah all the work is sloppy, but thats the reality for many body shops out there. They will do the exact same job or even worse
@robertelee67122 жыл бұрын
@@johnadona3014 I agree, that's why I work on my own cars. I don't trust a shop to do work to my expectations. I over do everything and to perfection. It takes me longer than most to repair a car but my work is far superior and will not have to be done again. I've always been this way and won't settle for half ass work.
@johnadona30142 жыл бұрын
@@robertelee6712 Yeah i slowly realized this the only person that will do the job properly is you. If you leave this up to someone else they will not put that extra effort into going the extra mile to make it perfect.

Im about to do some floorboard and rocker repairs on my car. Knowing what people do out there and how they repair cars. It makes me sick. There are very few who will do the job correctly
@beefmomma10 ай бұрын
I’m about to attack this exact job in a month. Could you please inform me to what needed to be better in this video? I’m already aware bracing of the body for no body warping, but what else? Thanks
