I have an older stihl saw I bought used. I had run it 4 or 5 hours when it quit. I took it to a stihl dealer. When I got it back he said that someone had changed over to electronic ignition, and the chip had failed. He showed me a one prong chrome looking chip. I took the saw home and after cutting for just 1/2 hour, it quit again. When I took the cover off to check the chip, it was a bigger two prong chip that he had put in. Can you explain this to me? I think you can just use an 029 ignition module. Available for cheap on ebay.

bought this for my 028 AV Super and when I took saw apart , noticed I had no wire coming from under flywheel. this guy says to send the chip back ( never installed it) and they'll apply the price towards a new coil !! Called the company and was told electronic parts are non-returnable! now Im looking for a new coil but I wont be buying from Lil REd Barn again!!!!!

I mounted the ignition chip to the coil as instructed and the saw would not run. It would short out the ignition system, so I had to mount it elsewhere

+Avdush Iljazi Just use a business card. It will get you very close to perfect for the air gap between the coil and the flywheel magnets.

DON'T. those ignition modules are crap. no module can have correct timing for everything and THEY ALL pack up after many issues.
