I'm glad I found you. Was ready to order a Petsafe kit. Now I'll do some more research on this.

Can the wire be run in some kind of pex or even underground in a garden hose to protect from things like moles and voles?
@outdoorpetsolutions13 күн бұрын
If you go with a premium grade wire such as what I use and offer, then the moles and voles won’t be an issue for you. If you go with a lower grade wire, then you may want to fish it through a protective pipe as you’re describing. However that will make the installation much more difficult for you. Here is a link to the pro grade wire I recommend. www.outdoorpetsolutions.com/store/product/boundary-wire-kit

RWU90 XLPE is the underground direct burial wire you are referring to. I used almost 2000’ of #14 RWU90 wire.

The cable that is manufactured for us does not use an XLPE insulated wall. That is the more common jacketing that is used with the mass produced building wire. It can be directed buried, however it is typically a thinner wall that is missing the additional UV protection along with the oxidative stability, toughness, and abrasion resistance. Early on in my career I used the XLPE covered cable, but it did break down over time due to environmental and thermal stress-cracking. This is where the jacketing becomes brittle and falls apart. I have been using the cable I provide today, for about 15 years and it is by far the best I can get my hands on to prevent the breakdown of the insulated wall.

@@outdoorpetsolutions as an electrician, retired now, is all I used for my 5 acre perimeter fence. I installed this system 7 years ago and have had no problems so far.

That’s great! It is used often for dog fence systems. Just not what I prefer to use these days. Thank you for sharing!

I have a pet safe unit I purchased used. I have everything except the wire and a new battery. I only need this fence for about 4 -6 months and I want to place it above ground on plastic tent stakes. Should I just order the 20 guage or would I need the larger size. Remember I am only using the system for a few months.

You can probably get away with the smaller gauge. Just be mindful about daily lawn maintenance and other activity. With it being the small gauge and above ground, you’ll run the risk of damaging it. But I understand you’re not wanting to invest too much for a temporary solution.

How do I connect more wire?
@outdoorpetsolutions6 ай бұрын
You can simply splice the cable together to extend the fence. The OPS1000 can support up to 5000 feet of cable. Here is a video where I review the proper way to splice the wire together. Spend the money folks or every summer you’ll be chasing a break or maybe not even a break maybe it just has corrosion in it. You pull it up and see that it’s all one wire, but the corrosion won’t allow the Signal to go through. BY THE GOOD WIRE THE FIRST TIME OR BUY A GOOD SHOVEL AND PUT ASIDE A BUNCH OF TIME TO FIRST FIGURE IT OUT AND THEN REPLACE THE PARTS 😳😳🥰🥰🥰🇺🇸

Hello, I have a question for you. I installed a loop of 16 gauge wire about 350 feet across part of my land. I would like to install another loop in another part of the field but since I no longer have enough 16 gauge wire can I use the wire that came with the kit purchased which is 20 gauge. The new loop will have approximately 200 to 250 feet in length and both loops would be linked together and operated on the same transmitter. Thanks in advance for your help and reply,
@outdoorpetsolutions Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Mixing different size gauges of wire won’t hinder the signal. But of course I’d recommend going with a heavier gauge for your second loop to avoid future hassles that the smaller 20 gauge will cause.

Not sure if youll see this or not but I have this idea to twis the included 20g wire into one 250ft piece and twist the ends together.... In theory, it'll become 16g😅 lol idk tbh but seems legit😂😂😂
@outdoorpetsolutionsАй бұрын
In theory yes. But you’ll need to consider the thin 20 mil jacket that’s used on that wire also. It’s just not thick enough to provide the protection the copper needs from moisture. So regardless of doubling it up, you’ll still run the risk of corrosion setting in when the thin jacket becomes damaged.
