Whirlpool should give this man a royalty. Like many others, a big factor for selecting this was that someone made a good full video. Luckily I was replacing a unit so this matched up in size. I was able to reuse the holes from the original bracket and just had to drill new holes for the top cabinet to the microwave. I didnt even look at the instructions and just followed this video. thanks

This is the best video on how to install a Whirlpool Over-the-Range microwave with roof-venting. His explanations and instructions are easy to follow. The picture quality is excellent and one can clearly see everything he does, including unpacking, collecting the tools needed, making the markings, finding the stud, using the template, etc. There is no guesswork here. Using these instructions I could install my Whirlpool WMH53521HZ microwave. Although, my model is different, the instructions and techniques shown in this video did the job for me. A big thanks and Thumps-up for Borsellino!

BHS - this video was awesome! Had purchased this unit direct from Whirlpool with installation (decided to cut myself a break). My installation has a roof vent and was a replacement of an older Whirlpool unit. Installers were total morons - damaged my top cabinet, damaged the microwave, tried to convince me that this unit wouldn't top vent, and then tried to leave the unit here for me to deal with. Explained to them (convincingly) that they were not going to leave my property unless the damaged unit was on their truck. I bought another one from Menards - display model, no box. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Whirlpool and another 90 minutes on a live chat with them trying to get the measurements for the vent cutout, mounting holes and placement of the support rail. Got nowhere - was ready to start hassling Whirlpool HQ, when I found your video - you saved the day!! For the benefit of your followers - here are the measurements: 1. Mounting rail (goes on back wall - centered, 17-5/16" from the bottom of the mounting rail to the BOTTOM of the cabinet (this is also the top of the microwave unit - if the top goes up against bracing below the top cabinet bottom, you'll measure to the bottom of the bracing. The measurement is 15-5/8" if you're measuring from the bottom of the cabinet to the TOP of the mounting rail. 2. Vent cutout - 12-1/2" x 4-3/4" - centered (6-1/4" on either side of the center line) and 1" from the back wall. 3. Power cord hole (1-1/2" hole) - 6-3/8" to right of center line and 6-1/2" from back wall. 4. Holes in top cabinet (for mounting screws) - Hole D - 12-1/2" to left of centerline & 10" from back wall Hole E - 7-1/2" to right of centerline & 10" from back wall I had to improvise for the venting. Had existing 10 x 3.25 square duct that extended below the bottom of the cabinet. Had to cut it off (in the cabinet above the microwave and then modified a starter collar I got at Lowes (www.lowes.com/pd/IMPERIAL-3-25-in-x-10-in-Galvanized-Steel-Rectangular-Stack-Duct-Starting-Collar/1000230291?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-plb-_-ggl-_-LIA_PLB_171_Air-Circulation-_-1000230291-_-local-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=CjwKCAiAmuKbBhA2EiwAxQnt72B8NoZoUBup2IzjeVKfgCnacyQhommk9hBHsbhWidkjrYNuF7g2wxoCEQQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) so I could slide it up into the existing ductwork and then down over the new damper assembly on the microwave. My modifications were: 1. Straighten out the bent lip and tabs (so they were back to the 10 x 3.25 square shape - so they'd slide up the ducting) 2. Drill out the rivets and remove the pieces on the other end of it (so it would slide nicely over the damper assembly) 3. Trim away the end (#2) so that it cleared the hinge/pivot of the damper flapper and wouldn't interfere with ti opening & closing. Once in place, I duct taped it to minimize air leaks. Again, you saved the day for me!

My GE microwave from 2005 finally crapped out. At first kzbin.infoUgkxO_Bc204MGjxDl87cOKcdgaRhzSqGmv_g I was unsure because I was looking for something with the exact same features. Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!

So you rotate blower motor up for roof venting installation only. I don't have roof venting, so I'm assuming I'd have to do the wall venting installation. But wouldn't that just blow onto the wall? I don't have wall venting either on my wall. The microwaveI'm replacing had a vent in the front on top of the door. So I'm now second guessing if i bought the correct microwave for my setup.
@BorsellinoHomeServices10 ай бұрын
i believe there are 3 options, top vent, back vent, and self recirculating vent. for the wall vent it's for microwaves that are on an exterior wall and you install the vent straight out the wall behind it

Great video. Gave me some good insight. I bought a 6yo house with a Whirlpool microwave (wmh2175xvs) already installed. It appears the blowers are pointing the correct upward direction for outside ventilation because my outside wall vent louvers open when the vent is on. On the top of the microwave, just in front and under the cabinet to which it is attached, there are series of holes which I assume are used as the outgoing vent for when the microwave is configured to blow forward (recirculating). When I run the vent, there is a suction along these holes. Looking inside these holes, I see a dirty metal filter (not the filter under the microwave where air is drawn from the stove). 2 questions: Should I somehow remove this internal filter and clean it? It is not obvious just how to remove this filter without uninstalling the microwave. If these holes are used for the recirculating vent configuration (which I am not configured for), can I simply tape over these holes to force more suction on the underside of the microwave? Thanks in advance.
@BorsellinoHomeServices2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't know much about how they are build beyond this installation video. I'd say give it a shot! You can always take the tape off! And you'll find out pretty quickly if you start pulling it apart if there is a filter or not inside. Doesn't make sense to me that they would put a hidden filter though

Ours has never vented stove smoke even on the high fan setting. Does yours vent the air? Wondering if it is a a faulty install or bad vent design...
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
This model you have to flip the motor around before installing with top vent, so that might be installed wrong. The vent could be blocked somehow or they ran the vent too long of a distance or not to the right specs. Maybe a bird's nest clogging the end or something. Or the flap on the outside might be stuck shut. If you hear the motor running it might sounds like it's working but maybe the actual fan got blocked or something? I dunno there's a few possible things that could be wrong with it. Of course it could also just not work well...
@matthews86913 жыл бұрын
@@BorsellinoHomeServices Motor was flipped up in the right direction. Reinstalled yesterday after putting some duct tape covering some small holes on the back of the microwave (to maybe increase suction)... not much improvement. Its a new building and from day one it was like this. Why would long ducting after the microwave matter if it works properly? The fan should push it out the top of the microwave at the same speed, no matter the length of ducting afterwards I would think...? The suction is also pitiful when not installed on wall (tested during reinstall). I think it is just crappy design --> crappy suction. 🙁
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
@@matthews8691 that sucks that it isn't working right. I don't know if long duct matters or not it was just a thought. Or maybe the duct takes too many turns. That can reduce airflow I would think... Is it the same model that I installed in the video? If it is new maybe just try to return it

How well does it work for venting, and how loud is it? Thx
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
it seems to work pretty good. i don't use it very often but when i do it definitely works. the HI setting is not terribly loud, but loud enough that I don't run it longer than I need to. I usually run it on LOW though and it's not bad and sometimes I forget to turn it off while I'm eating then I'm cleaning up dinner and realize the fan is still on

I don't have the silver metal piece so the front of my cupboard the one above the microwave is a bit greasy; how can I fix this problem?
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
Clean it?? I'm not really sure what you're asking, this seems more of a cooking and cleaning issue than an installation issue, no??
@GyaluelJr3 жыл бұрын
@@BorsellinoHomeServices ok so the fan from the microwave blows to the front, see in your video you unscrew the nuts and changed the fan direction to blow upward instead of blow forward? That's what am refusing to.
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
@@GyaluelJr refusing to do it?! Or there's no vent above so self venting is your only option?? Have you checked to make sure the grease filter is in place? I never understand self venting, it just dumps all the heat, humidity, smoke, grease right into the room instead of outside... I wish I had a solution for you, I really do!

@@BorsellinoHomeServices- this is what we’ve had in our kitchen for the past 20 years. It’s the system that was set up by the previous owners with just a hood above the stove and no vent in the wall. I think the idea was that at least some of the grease from your cooking smoke on the stovetop gets trapped by the metal filter before it was circulates into the kitchen. And then you wash that periodically. it doesn’t work very well. When we took our cabinets down to redo the kitchen, you would not believe the greasy dust on top of them. We are about to install a new whirlpool microwave hood vented to the outside and I’m very excited about that. Appreciate your video.!

Does it matter if the damper assembly is installed reverse from the way you install it, with the damper opening in the opposite direction?
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
I don't think I understand what you're asking. Is it able to be installed rotated 180 degrees? As long as all the screws go into holes and the air moves in the right direction then it is installed right. If the vent is installed improperly you most likely won't have airflow, thus defeating the purpose of the vent. But again, I'm not fully sure what you're asking.

Hi there ! Does the fan automatically come in while using the microwave ? I can’t find if there is a way to shut off the fav when just warming up something

uhhhhhhh i never really payed much attention to that but there must be some exhaust built in if that's what you're talking about. But not like the main loud blower fan right??
@Tperrien223 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s the super loud fan that you turn on while cooking. For some reason when the microwave is on the fan automatically goes on. I was wondering if everyone’s does this or if my husband installed something wrong it a setting I can change .
@BorsellinoHomeServices3 жыл бұрын
@@Tperrien22 I just tested mine and the fan does come on! I turned on the actual fan and it does match the sound of the low setting, not the high setting though.My guess is there's no way to turn it off. If it's coming on with the high setting for you there might be something wrong with the wiring, but it should be the lower of the two settings for the microwave part.

Customers need to think twice before buying the Whirlpool microwave- wmh53521hz-5. When the light won’t shut off the only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, and they range in price from $156 to over $300 online plus tax and shipping. Also $150 for service call to install it. And it’s an inherent problem in this Whirlpool model. You can buy a new microwave for $450 or pay that much for repairs or buy an LED stick up under cabinet lights for $12 to $18 as a alternative solution.
