How to install an x pipe / H pipe / prochamber / mid pipe: Ford Mustang 1994-2004

Any special tricks to get midpipe to seat fully to the pipe that leads to muffler? Lightly sand any rust and use a good lubricant?

I have the H on my cobra and it avoids the nasty rasp at 2,500 rpm, and more of a muscle car sound. But I think the x is more raw in the end. Depends on what you’re looking for

I had a off road h pipe installed had a question does your driver side sit low? Not sure if the pipes are just shit or that’s how they sit, the shop says that’s how it’s suppose to be cause that’s the way the pipes sit.. I have barley any clearance since I’m lowered lol

S gill if everything is tight and it’s not leaking, then that’s probably just how it’s built. my SLP X Pipe hangs down really low compared to other X Pipe‘s. It just depends on the manufacture sometimes

I am installing a X pipe and cat back on my Mach one from Bassani. (With cats) The question is do I need to get a tune after removing my stock exhaust system? Just wondering your thoughts

If you still have cats (high flow) it may or may not trigger the rear o2 sensors when they notice less filtering. It won’t hurt the car, but if you get a check engine light you will want to look into mil eliminators or a tune that turns the rear 02 sensors off. The car may also run a little more rich, but it won’t need a tune unless it’s completely catless. My GT runs fun without any, but my mach 1 turned into a dog without the tune for o/r.

Good morning sir - would a brand new gasket, the copper ultra gasket (or both) be optimal? I just installed an OR XPipe on my 98 Cobra and noticed the passenger exhaust flange is smoking now. Thinking perhaps the gasket was damaged during install so just ordered a new one from Ford for $8 :)

Eero Laukkanen I was changing out the x pipe to another x pipe that has a "bung" (port that accepts a wideband sensor). The nut for the manifold bolts should be 15mm and you may not be able to fit a deep socket in there, so you can go to a 1/2 drive size socket that is deep enough and will act like a deep socket.

Eero Laukkanen sorry, I already sold it. I'm not sure it would match up anyway. The "bung" is a threaded area just like the O2 sensor port.

Don Johnson I recall trying to put a 96-98 mid pipe on my 03 Mach 1 at one point and it didn't quite match up. It may depend on the manufacture if they made it work on all, but I would say probably not

Is there a reason you don't unplug the O2 sensors to install them?

You can, but they are pretty high up in there, so they can be hard to reach the connection. Either way works

Yes, for the most part it does match right up. It depends on the quality of the kit and a few things. For example, the SLP x pipe I removed in this video separates into 3 pieces. It makes it difficult to get all angles correct and not have it leak at any of the joints. The SLP set up does give you more play as you can add or subtract a few inches here and there. The magnaflow x pipe I installed in it's place was one piece, so it doesn't let you give and take. The magnaflow pipe matches up closer, it is less likely to leak, but it forces pieces to match up how it comes. It actually sucked my exhaust tips in about an inch since it was shorter. Just make sure you are not buying a "shorty" x or h pipe that is meant for headers

Thanks. It will be an off/road down-pipe, ProChamber mid-pipe. Connected to stock headers. I am adding new hi-flow cats, and 4 new O2 sensors and MIL eliminator if needed. I will cut in the hi-flow cats, so it will be in about 6 pieces. I'm worried about the width between the two pipes on the outlet of midpipe which is identical to your X pipe shown in picture. Whether or not the stock muffler piping is going to match up. Thanks

hey I just purchased a used x pipe for my 2000 Mustang GT and it didn't come with any hardware do I need to purchase hardware before I do this or do I just use my factory stuff? my exhaust in stock except for 2 mufflers I had a shop weld in. thank you!

Dylan Finnegan you may not be able to use factory hardware because it has studs that appear to be welded in. You can try, but plan to make a trip to the hardware store

Danny Johnson they came out easy the first time I took the stock mid pipe off. The o2 sensor socket I was using was flexing and slipping. I will try a wrench or another socket.

Don Johnson 2V to 2V. I've put 99-04 2V on my Mach 1 without w problem and a lot of companies advertise they fit "99-04 GT, Mach 1, and cobra." In fact, the h pipe on my Cobra was once on a 2000 GT.
