The only advice I want to add is: Teflon tape, it needs to be in the same direction as the threads when applying the tape.

Do NOT just cut into any red wire. It has to be a thermostat wire and not every AC unit is color coordinated as they should be. The red wire you are looking for comes from a thick brown wire with multiple colors (green, white, red, blue, yellow....some have orange and purple). Trace the red wire coming from the brown multi wire. That is the power to 24v from thermostat. Cut wire. Connect one leg of the switch to each end of the right red wire. What he is not saying in this video is that some wires are still hot coming from the condenser.
@ST-wg9jr

There are no hot wires coming from the condenser (outside unit). All 24V power is from a transformer in the inside unit. No line power from outside unit to inside unit either.

To make it sound correct, you are breaking the 24 vac supply coming from transformer in air handler to the red wire going to the thermostat, thus shutting off power to blower relay, compressor relay, and if you have a heat pump, the reversing valve relay. If your thermostat isnt powered by a battery, you will know to check the drain first for blockage, by the face of the digital thermostat being blank from lack of power.

There is no cutting! Just follow the Red wire coming from the thermostat and you will see that the red wire connected to the wire coming from you air handler transformer that gives it power. Now, connect one to the thermostat red wire and the other one to transformer wire. Safety switch now ready 👍
@josephbonner7435
@josephbonner7435 4 жыл бұрын
That's not correct...you should wire the safety switch through your yellow wire going to your condensing unit outside this cuts off the condensing unit whereas the red wire only cuts off your blower
@elwoodstelhommme8745
@elwoodstelhommme8745 4 жыл бұрын
When you connect it between the red wire coming from the thermostat and the red wire from the transformer and the float switch trips it stops 24 volts from going to the thermostat which controls thw blower and condensing unit. So it shuts of the the air handler and condensing unit.

On your furnace you grab the red thermostat wire and you tie a wire nut there and the other extra line you put it into your R on your furnace, either or is correct whether you want on your red or yellow but in our company we prefer to do it to the red because it controls your whole unit compared to just turning off your condensor

Even the most basic essential tool (multi-meter) is not used in this video. Instead, "color" of wires is offered as the guide to right/wrong. When using electrical diagrams, never forget that the diagram illustrates what SHOULD be and NOT what it COULD be. Color-referencing ONLY is a VERY RISKY method of making changes to wiring when used as the sole means to make connections. CHECK AND VERIFY with a multi-meter.

Instructions on it clearly say connect to red or yellow wire coming out of thermostat. Yellow will only cut off compressor. Red will turn off entire AC. Of course this is not for those that are technically challenged or those that do not know where thermostat cable is.

I am trying to understand how to connect the wires, switch has 2 wires one goes on the red but i have to disconnect the red from the board and connect one of the wires on the board itself or connect directly to the red wire after disconnection from the board ? and second wire connect to where? Thank you
@MaciejPiotrowski

You connect the switch in between red wire coming out of thermostat so when the float switch engages it will cut of the power. If you don't feel comfortable doing this ask AC person to do it for you. I do not take any responsibility for damaged AC units due to wrong switch installation.
@rootcozy2978

Think of it as a circle series wiring. The red wite you traced coming from thermostat (could be bundled together with other colors), split or disconnect that red wite frim where ever it’s attached to and connect the first switch wire to it. Now connect the 2nd switch wire to the other wite that comes off or that was disconnected/separated from the red wire, forming a circle ir continuity. If the float switch trips or is activated, it kills the circuit. Take pictures before you touch the wirings so yiu can trace back if you mess up. Follow this thought process to install multiple switches. I hope this helps clarify this.👍

@josephbonner7435 4 жыл бұрын
Yes big difference in heat pumps...you want to separate the yellow wires , one comes from the thermostat the other from your condensing unit tie onn wire from your float switch to each , this ensures your unit can no longer produce water.
@officerkrupke4966
@officerkrupke4966 Жыл бұрын
@@josephbonner7435 The problem with breaking the yellow wire is that with small blockage causing a slow drain, the float will chatter, causing compressor to start and stop so often it will probably damage compressor. When you break red to modern thermostat, there will be a five minute delay before attempting to restart compressor, thereby allowing pressures in compressor to equalize and cause less stress on unit.

AC's safety float switch is not working properly. To replace it with new one, can I just cut an existing switch's line(black color) about 2-3 inches and connect it without changing all the two long lines?
@MaciejPiotrowski
@MaciejPiotrowski 6 жыл бұрын
Correct. As long as the new float switch is connected to the proper lines inside of the unit, it does not matter if the connecting cables are in one piece or connected somewhere. Just make sure you connect and insulate them properly. I would put electric tape over the connections. It's always better to to have one piece of cable instead of pieces, but it's up to you how you want to do it. Hope this helps.

Well you just tied into the 24v wire from the transformer and when you get a short it’s gonna melt and burn up the switch you have to cut the y from thermostat wire and run it in series witch is the YELLOW wire sometimes unless they picked other wise. you only need to shut the condenser down to stop the refrigeration cycle which stops condensation and the y wire is not gonna be the main load. just stop making hvac videos so you don’t tear up everyone’s system
