How to install Automatic door weather seal - Raven RP3

Having installed one of these today, I would further state: 1. Don't cut the door seal to the exact width of the door (frame to frame), you need to cut it a few millimeters shorter for the non-hinged side of the door. If it's flush with the door, you won't be able to shut it without the door seal or aluminum rubbing against the frame. 2. When securing the door seal with the screws, I recommend securing the hinged side of the door first as this will give you a little wiggle room if the other side is too close to the door frame (also it will give you a better guide if you have to trim any extra off). If you start the other way, you may have a gap at the hinged side.

Not concise. He made very rookie mistakes. You learned how to do it wrong in this video. 1:35 You cut it on the WRONG END. Whenever cutting things like this you should always cut on the side that is less seen , where people will notice a non straight or not factory cut. 3:52 Also you put the cam on the WRONG SIDE. For the same reasons but adding that the side you put it on can very from season to season, cold or height temps.

But just because someone says they're a single mum, it doesn't mean they're stupid or not capable, far from it. It demonstrates they want to give it a go, to be independent, to do what 'hubby' would usually do. No greater feeling than being industrious and autonomous. This was a great video!! Might have enough room on the inside of this for a line or 2 of spray foam too, maybe a more appropriate mod for the winter climates

It wouldn't affect anything with the aesthetics since you can't see the foam ( it's sprayed on the inside of the hinge where there's a bit of a gap ) If you think the base model is not appealing they come in different colors to match your door. It's extremely practical for what it's designed to do which is keep cold air and pests out

Can I use this seal to help protect the bottom of the door? I have some very small water damage on the bottom and I will sand and re-paint it but hoping to get this to help protect the bottom of the door.

If you use the Raven RP3, yes, it should protect from water damage. We are installing one to stop water coming in under the door during hard rain.

I was intrigued, but it looks like maybe it could too easily get damaged by either stepping on it, or kicking or hitting the cam with something you are carrying or moving, not sure about this one. Also about wear on the cam. Idk no sweeps last forever, this may have a shorter than normal life idk.

No, you need a weather seal that has a button on one end that gets pushed in when the door shuts. Cowdroy make them, cut to size, cant remember the model number. Don

Yes, that's right. I installed one of these today. I read the instructions which said to leave 3mm on the closing side of the door. However, I followed the advice on this video instead (to cut the door seal 'frame to frame'') and found that I had to cut some more off as the door seal scraped up against the door frame. It was a bit annoying actually. I should have stuck to the instructions.

You don't even need this type of seal. If the door swings out, all you need is a regular type of door sweeper/seal.
